Fantastic. That's a big move by "Habits."

The Inquisitor chimes in. 46K Twitter followers:
Quote:In the past, Postmodern Jukebox has presented unique renditions of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” and Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison.” They are also behind that sad, singing clown, Puddles. Now, they have given Haley Reinhart the perfect outlet for her sexy, smokey voice and unique style of singing, all of which led Haley to the American Idol final rounds. Together with Postmodern Jukebox, Haley Reinhart delivers a chilling, emotional cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.”
There is so much in this cover that gives Ms. Reinhart the opportunity to really stand out and prove her value as a musical talent, but perhaps the single most astonishing fact is that Haley nailed it in a single take. Wonder what Simon Cowell would say to that?
Reinhart’s appearance on American Idol, years back, was unique for her bluesy style, which made her a favorite amongst the audiences and television viewers. Her chosen style stood her out amid that season’s long line of country and rock and roll artists. In spite of her popularity, or perhaps because of it, Haley’s stage presence was a source of frequent criticism by the American Idol judges. Even bold new versions of songs from such artists as Adele, Alanis Morissette and Elton John couldn’t keep judges from scrutinizing Reinhart’s every nuance.
Although Haley ended up with a modest third place victory, she was still offered a post- American Idol record deal that resulted in a 2012 debut album entitled Listen Up! Clinging to the jazz and blues sounds that carried Haley through that American Idol season didn’t carry too well into record sales and she was eventually dropped by Interscope Records after 19 recordings.
Following an appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Ms. Reinhart has teamed up with Postmodern Jukebox and has recorded a number of cover songs with them. It seems that life after American Idol has been much better for Haley than it has for many of American Idol‘s other former contestants. As can be seen in the video, Ms. Reinhart has found her place and seems to feel comfortable on stage as an entertainer. Haley has experienced so much success that she has also joined Postmodern Jukebox on their recent European tour.
Additionally, Haley has just released a new EP and Ms. Reinhart is also behind the Netflix animated series F Is For Family. Haley’s unique sound might even net her a guest spot on American Horror Story or Scream Queens. We all know how much Ryan Murphy loves his musical numbers!

@PJHaleyR 190 Creep. top 200 iTunes list.
Haley's been bumped off the top FB trends for now, but I have hope she'll be back. Bunch of stories related to entertainment right now.
Back at #5 now.

Well, that's curious. This was the season that Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Alison Iraheta, to name a few, went through. I tried finding his AI offerings on YouTube. Only found his initial audition. Ouch! Von has intonation concerns when accompanied. When a capella ... well, it wasn't pretty. I still am baffled that Scott has him as a part of the PMJ family.
Here's your answer:
(Scott tweeted out this interview about getting his millionth subscriber)
YouTube Millionaires: Scott Bradlee And Postmodern Jukebox Are “Just Scratching The Surface”
Quote:F: On a similar note, since these videos seem like they are very fun to make, how often do you get requests from musicians who want to record with you?
Quote:SB: Pretty often. Sometimes, it works out, too. Von Smith (from our “Rude” and “Shake it Off” covers) shared his version of our version of “Thrift Shop” with me via Twitter, and I was so impressed that I immediately invited him to record a video with us.
Man, I completely missed this page earlier today. I apologize for the duplication of the YouTube Millionaires interview url in the PMJ thread, although it's not as though it doesn't belong there.
So, in the last couple days I've asked (questions) and received (answers). Pretty fun. Given Scott's response regarding how Von Smith ended up with him, I will now be questioning his (Scott's) judgement.

Its a new day-Haley at No.1 And this should have some staying power-being on the jazz charts its less susceptible to temporary whims like on the pop charts. And virtually everything else on the chart is either classic recordings form various artists -many of whom are no longer with us- or a throwback sound via PMJ.
Haley's version of this -and the sound and the arrangement sounds to me like a classic pop/R+B ballad from about 50 years ago.But whatever label you want to put on it,this is all pretty exciting for Haley fans.
I've already spouted off about how poorly I think iTunes is categorizing music, but, kaypea, you do raise a good point regarding the "durability" of it, if not on the pop charts. You're also right about the pop/R&B ballad approach, although I'd say 60 years ago (it sounds like classic 50's stuff to me). However, that R&B bass line didn't change much (if at all) between the 50's and the early 60's.
Several have expressed amazement that Haley did this in one take. That really shouldn't be so surprising. As I recall, much of Listen Up was recorded in one take. So were a few of her AI recordings, I think. But more importantly, we now know Haley wanted to sing this song while on Idol. That was four years ago! Who knows how long it had been germinating in her head prior to that (besides Haley, of course). We're all fortunate that she finally had the opportunity to do it (including Haley), but I wouldn't be surprised that her concept of it has varied little since she first wanted to perform it.

MAE, don't too hard on Scott it seems he has a harder time finding good male vocalists. But VS strikes me as a robotic Ken doll on stage.
With respect to the one tape thing -- ya that's Haley. I recall her talking about Don Was as a producer of one of her AI songs and admiring his spontaneous one take approach. I'm not a big fan of the approach in general, and listening to early takes of great Beatles tunes speaks to that. However, Haley did have a chance to perform the song several times before the recording of it, which allowed her to get it the way she wanted. I imagine that by the time she finished the song in Lyon, the second time she sang it on tour, recording it was a lock for Scott.
