Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!

So...I was just thinking about "Show Me Your Moves" and "Creep."

The thought occurred to me how great it would have been if SMYM had gone viral like "Creep." It didn't though because it didn't highlight Haley's voice and wasn't what her fans expected. It's possible that the response to SMYM shaped what was chosen for the Ole EP. In sum, the EP might be better as a result of SMYM.

I also was thinking about SMYM versus Creep. Think of all the work Haley and her people put into SMYM: fund-raising, filming of the video, post production, all of Haley's personal responses to the contributors -- and really just a fizzle.

Now compare that to her work with PMJ on Habits, AATB, and Creep - three days in the studio and a pre-established audiance -- and Bang, Bang, Bang.

Oh, the luxury of Haley being focused on the music and the performance.

Actually two days in a "studio." AATB and Creep were recorded on the day off in Zurich, along with at least one other song with Von and Annie Goodchild.

I agree. Absolutely nothing wrong with Haley in the PMJ or the NOJO "lanes".

Here's a little of Ella's early biography.

That unexpected performance at the Apollo helped set Fitzgerald's career in motion. She soon met bandleader and drummer Chick Webb and eventually joined his group as a singer. Fitzgerald recorded "Love and Kisses" with Webb in 1935 and found herself playing regularly at one of Harlem's hottest clubs, the Savoy.

In addition to her work with Webb, Fitzgerald performed and recorded with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. She had her own side project, too, known as Ella Fitzgerald and Her Savoy Eight. Following Webb's death in 1939, Ella became the leader of the band, which was renamed Ella Fitzgerald and Her Famous Orchestra. (Some sources refer to the group as Ella Fitzgerald and Her Famous Band.)

....Her career really began to take off in 1946 when she started working with Norman Granz, the future founder of Verve Records. In the mid-1940s, Granz had started Jazz at the Philharmonic, a series of concerts and live records featuring most of the genre's great performers.

Around this time, Fitzgerald went on tour with Dizzy Gillespie and his band. She started changing her singing style, incorporating scat singing during her performances.

I wonder, now that Harry has performed, not as a 'guest' like in Spiderweb and Keep Coming Back, but as a studio musician, IN FULL, for Haley on her EP, does that then get him into any kind of membership, like actors have the Screen Actor's Guild?

Are there dues he has to pay or opportunities now available to him that wouldn't otherwise be available if he hadn't had recorded tracks on Haley's EP?

(Or maybe that he played on LU at all already qualified him for these things?)

I think Haley is still finding her way. She loves to sing, and she loves to sing all kinds of music. In the Mayfield school interview she spoke of recording different kinds of things including maybe a jazz album sometime. Her EP should tell us a lot about her choice of lane, where she has control. As far as PMJ goes, I think it was clear to many that this would be a great fit for Haley, and it is.

Anders Grahn posted that he's flying to LA from NY... I wonder if it's for more work with Haley? Maybe on the songs he wrote with her a few weeks ago in London?

I wonder if he'll be in LA for her Room 5 show?

I guess he was flying in to work with Haley after all
