RE: Haley's New Songs
I am really wondering if Haley sang the new songs publicly to help her team decide the "final" songs to put on the EP. For me the studio version is usually the one that best introduces a new song and I can't understand why she would want to show her "best" new songs in a stripped down live venue. We know she has other songs so I wonder if all the previews are for those songs she isn't so sure about (regarding inclusion in the EP).

It took me a couple of listens to warm up to that line, but I'm fine with it. As far as cliche's go, I don't have a problem incorporating a cliche into a song if it is done well and fits. To me the real cliches in songs are often the predictable rhyming lyrics like fire - desire, or worn out metaphors about storms, hearts, mountains, etc.
Deleted my comments.
They weren't bad but too many words.
Basically we could have a long discussion of the meaning of the word Cliche first before we could agree on where it applies.
As for enjoying a lyric.. sometimes things like personal religious ideals and symbolism come into play and make it difficult to hear things another way even if you know that's not how a singer means it. Also it is always like fingers to a chalkboard to me when I hear about deliberate waste (but , I wouldn't mind her selling to the ring to someone else who would appreciate it then traveling the world with the money seeking closure -- that isn't an attack on the ring or a squandering of value --- oh oh i'm adding and more words back !)
its all personal
As for new songs
I like "love is worth fighting for" personally.
I really thing how much I'd like it would depend on what sort of accompaniment she had though.. the musicians around the music all add to the context the voice is heard in.
Also, I think that's the key to whether it would be a commercial success or not.
It doesn't need to be "highly produced" it could be spare through a lot of it etc.
but it's bass line and rhytym line have to have some hook even if they're simple
I think the studio version (and a real piano player lol) done with a real producer and top musicians with time to do takes and get it right etc. could be really cool.

RE: Haley's New Songs
Here is my .02 on the new music and upcoming EP…sorry for the long post!
Based on the songs I am aware of , here is my suggestion for the 6 songs on the EP entitled “Better”
• Better
• Good Or Bad
• Lover Girl
• My Cake
• ROCKER TBD
• Love Is Worth Fighting For
I think someone mentioned that she may have auditioned “Good Or Bad” vs “Lover Girl” at her recent show to get audience/YouTube reaction and feedback. I think “Good Or Bad” is the stronger song because of how it builds into a powerful rocker and shows Haley’s range. “Lover Girl” is a very cool song, and Haley sings it so sexily that I really like it too. I am not a huge fan of “Better” as I agree there is a little too much repetition, but it is a bit of an ear-worm, and it has an empowering message. “My Cake” is just a fun catchy song that Haley can play with and I think it fits her like a glove.
I hope she does not leave out “Love Is Worth Fighting For” as I think this song is so powerful and moving in many ways and could be done with a very simple accompaniment. This is the kind of song that could be a viral hit given how well Haley can belt it out. As a matter of fact, I think LIWFF could be the name of the EP to specifically highlight that song.
The one wild card is what I am calling ROCKER TBD. I really hope that Haley does another song in the spirit of “Keep Coming Back” or “Spiderweb” just to show her rocking growler chops. It could be a cover perhaps, and “I Hear You Knockin” by Fats Domino is maybe a consideration. One other wild card is a song like “Black Velvet” that could highlight her voice in a big way, like “Creep” or earlier songs “I Who Have Nothing” or HOTRS.
Regarding expectations for the EP, I think Ole would hope that her Halien fan base would quickly buy up thousands of copies in the first week and maybe it would chart on iTunes for a week or more. I don’t think we can expect a “hit” song given Ole probably does not have the resources to push out a single for radio play, etc. They are not a record label. I am hoping that Ole funds a video of at least one song, and Haley can tour in 10-15 cities with a band as part of the release.
Long term, I really just want Haley to continue to make music and work with a great band and release a new CD/EP and tour every year or so. If she happens to have a hit song, that would be great, but to me it would just be great to see her live, fronting a band, and building her fan base.

I enjoyed the long post! It's good to know I'm not the only one who goes so into depth about all of Haley's songs.
It's hard to imagine all of the songs we already know being 5 or even all 6 songs on the EP. As much as we want them, I think we might have to accept there might be 3 new ones, maybe more? Who knows though. I'd like to think if she gets to make an LP a year after the EP is released or so then she'll fit all our favorites & some more new ones onto an album.

Rachel, I agree with your estimate (see bolded sentence). It doesn't make sense to me that she would want to release a new EP with older songs, particularly Better and My Cake that she has performed frequently, rather than the new material she's been working on. Wasn't it in August, 2012 she first performed both at CityWalk? That's almost 3 years ago.
