RE: Report: Idol to end after S15
http://cartermatt.com/164512/american-id...al-season/
We’ll obviously have a whole lot of time to discuss this moving forward, but to us some of the most notable contestants over the show’s history include the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, David Archuleta, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Candice Glover, and plenty of other names that we didn’t even get around to mentioning here. They’ve had as a whole more success launching stars than any other show has, even though it’s been a few years since they’ve been that successful at it.
Notice no mention of Lauren Alaina, Daughtry or Caleb Johnson? Surprised they mentioned Lee DeWyze but not Rubin or Fantasia (I had to google who won last year because I couldn't remember)

RE: Report: Idol to end after S15
When I first heard the news today, I thought Idol wasn't getting picked up next year & Wednesday nights finale would be their last show. And I thought that kind of sad. So when I found out they were getting a final season next year, & that they'll be bringing back a lot of former Idols for a season long celebration of the series, I thought this was actually good news.
It gives them a chance to go out w/ a bang instead of just fizzle out. I personally think the ratings will be up somewhat next year. Because I think nostalgia will bring a decent number of former Idol fans back for the final season. It's the end of an era for a lot of people after all.
It's better to burn out than to fade away. (At least in this instance anyway.) And most importantly I think this will benefit Haley, because when major show announces it's ending there's usually an increase in interest among the public, so I think there will be a few more media opportunities available to her. An increase in "Where are they now" pieces for instance. Not to mention potential for involvement in the show itself at least as a performer & quite possibly a mentor.
The timing for this couldn't get much better. Haley has gained a lot of exposure w/ PMJ so far this year, & is in the early stages of relaunching her solo career. By the time the S15 shows begin airing, Haley & Ole will have been promoting her EP for 6 months, they almost certainly will have released a single, the 1st season of F is for Family will have aired, & who knows what else. If Haley was starting to/or in the middle of promoting her sophomore LP, when the live shows are airing next year, that could be kind of good IMO.
On the other hand, maybe Haley won't want to use Idol to promote her new music at all. I kind of doubt it though.

RE: Report: Idol to end after S15
It seems as though it took Michael Slezak a wee bit longer to come out of his fetal position and collect his thoughts for this article than he estimated yesterday. None the less, it's posted:
Quote:American Idol: How Fox Failed Its Golden Goose — and Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Pull the Plug
THEY FORGOT TO INVEST IN THEIR WINNERS | Idol‘s one unwavering advantage over The Voice was the fact that it had multiple graduates achieve enormous (or at least pretty solid) post-show success. (Heck, even the all-too-often maligned Ruben Studdard, Kris Allen and David Cook scored sizable hits on the Billboard’s Hot 100.) Debut discs by Candice and Caleb, however, (both released in 2014) received the promotional equivalent of being strapped to a rickety canoe and dumped in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. OK, so maybe Interscope didn’t truly believe in the Season 12 and 13 victors, but 19 Entertainment’s failure to champion its champions was another signal to the Idoloonie Nation that
committing to the time-consuming Idol process wouldn’t result in any real payoff.

RE: Report: Idol to end after S15
Quote:American Idol' Exec Producer Per Blankes Exits Show (Exclusive)
American Idol executive producer Per Blankens is leaving the Fox show after two years on the job, a representative for FremantleMedia, the show's production partner, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/am...ens-795770
Among all the Idol and Voice announcements, finales, and chatter, this announcement seemed to slip through the cracks here -- or, perhaps, seemed so insignificant that it wasn't worth mention?
Personally, I'm relieved to know that he's gone. If next year -- AI's final year -- is truly to be a celebration, primarily of it's prior groundbreaking achievement, "Uncle PB" (as MindyDoo labeled him in his first year) was definitely not the right person to lead that charge.
Here's another perspective from MJsBigBlog:
http://www.mjsbigblog.com/executive-prod...n-idol.htm
Quote:Bring back Nigel Lythgoe! No seriously. If we’re doing the Nostalgia Tour for Idol’s last season, why not bring back Nigel? Interesting that he was invited to the finale and happily sat in the audience. Last season he tweeted that he could not even handle watching. Hm.
Oddly, before I'd seen MJs perspective, I thought of bringing back Nigel. Although many of you may despise Nigel, his history with the show during it's heydey suggests that he would know how to draw out the best. And, I think, he has "grand idea" of celebration. Given that Michael Slezak and Melinda Doolittle can, at best, provide suggestions/ideas that will (unfortunately) never be heeded, it makes a weird sort of sense to bring Nigel back.
