1940s jazz cover of 'Lovefool' might be better than the original

If you were alive in the '90s, you probably have "Lovefool" by The Cardigans seared into your brain (don't lie).

Postmodern Jukebox gives the retro favorite an even more retro, 1940s twist. In this version, the mood of that song actually matches the somewhat bleak lyrics, and the tune sounds as though it could have been sung by Ella Fitzgerald in her heyday.

And yes, after you listen, you will probably have BOTH versions stuck in your head all day.

Here’s the Vintage Jazz Version of ‘Lovefool’ You Had No Idea You Needed

It's actually quite great

The ’90s pop tune “Lovefool” is likely to get stuck in your head at really random times because it’s so damn catchy — but this vintage jazz cover might actually be better. It comes to us from Postmodern Jukebox, who recently gave us a Grease-style makeover of a Taylor Swift tune and a 1920s jazz rendition of a Coolio song.

This retro spin on “Lovefool” features vocalist Haley Reinhart accompanied by a full band, including a harp, trumpet, sax and trombone. The original version by the Cardigans is a 1990s staple — but this version really sounds like it could have been a 1940s classic.

Oh, and yeah: now “Lovefool” will be in your head for the rest of the week. Sorry.

Totally incredible. Haley has has some amazing collaborations, most notably with her dad and family, with Keith Phillips, with Irvin Mayfield, and with Casey. But I'm not sure that she ever sounds better than she does then she when sings with PMJ.

This one has such a classic sound. Not the drama of Creep, but crisp and tight. I think the arrangement by Scott is excellent and Haley nails it.
