RE: Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!
I'm happy we're getting new music, but I'm doubtful Ole can do anything exceptional to get "Better" heard on the radio.
Slash:
Quote:"I think the music business itself sucks. It's turned very corporate, materialistic. Even artists are trying to conform to the record industry now. It used to be the artist was for the artist and there was a conflict of interest between the creative artist and the record company wanting to make a lot of money, and eventually they'd sort of work it out.
“Because then, they used to develop artists, and now it's just like Top 40 — everybody's trying to be Top 40. Even heavy metal bands are trying to be Top 40. So it's not a big turn-on, like it was for me in the 60s and 70s and 80s where it was exciting and there was a sense of rebellion and whatever."
...“For new artists it’s really hard, and even if you have a good band, it’s like if you don’t have a Top 40 success on your first single, you’re done. And in order to get Top 40 success on your first single, you have to make compromises for your material for the record business itself.”

Awesome mention of Haley:
What are some licensing success stories you’ve had with the ole catalog that you’re particularly proud of?
We’ve had a great deal of film and TV success over the past year, with many placements in name-brand films, TV shows, and advertising campaigns.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the success we’ve had with ole writer Haley Reinhart. She’s an emerging superstar, and to be able to help her along the way via sync deals is really exciting. Her last project, “Show Me Your Moves,” resulted in two large TV campaigns in the advertising space, one for Cubus and the other a nationwide campaign for Chase Personal Banking.

That's why I have been wondering how "Better" is the single to promote - in what context would lyrics fit that say "I threw your ring into the ocean / Now I'm feeling better / Feeling better, feeling better now / I watch it sink, and now I'm floating / Now I'm feeling better". I don't think that is particularly suited to advertising. Advertising for what would work with that? Ideas?
There are some other lines that might work, such as the opening, but the chorus is needed, or not? What is it suited for? I like the song as such, including lyrics (we discussed in another thread whether it is cliche or not, with quite different opinions expressed), but not for placement. Just wondering! I'll let myself be surprised! Just the thoughts a Halien has when the heat is stifling (hit 100 yesterday, air flowing up from the Sahara ...). I'm way beyond doubting Haley's instincts (if I ever did).

My mind works the same way X, must be the German genes . I agree, it isn't a song for advertisements. I have no doubt that it is the first single to be released because it has been placed somewhere. My guess, because of the September release, is that it is going to be associated with a TV show, probably a new one. I just have this gut feeling that the 'breakout' is really close.

RE: Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!
Placement is not exclusive to advertising. Like when Hit the Ground Running, what was it, that was used for transition music during the College football season? There's also TV spots, movie placement, we know Ole places songs in the theaters, muzak and such... so many opportunities to drum up royalty income.
I don't know what kind of resources Ole will expend to try and get radio play, especially as their raison d'etre is income revenue for musical properties.
So as far as 'single' we can expect at the very least iTunes promotion, hopefully a tour can come out of it, it'd be outstanding(!) but we shouldn't hold our breaths hoping for radio air play.
(Of course I could be completely wrong guessing Ole's level of interest, getting into the radio airplay dance)

What if there is a movie (or a few movies) interested.
Because as much as it doesn't fit with advertising (or the choruses don't), the song "Better" could fit a ton of movies.
