This was one of my favorite moments from that night. Hearing her voice without barely any accompaniment--live--is a marvel; you get to hear her raspy tone in its entirety without it being shrouded. It gave me chills!

I lived in the Bay Area as a college student during the '60s, (yes, I'm an old fart) and spent way too much time at the Fillmore, Winterland, Avalon Ballroom, etc. Our son lives in Northern California and I wanted to introduce him to PMJ (and Haley, of course), so my wife and I were prepared to make the trip up North from our home in Southern California for this concert. But, our son had a business conference and couldn't get away, so we decided to go to the Club Nokia concert instead. Anyway, up until now I've been kinda disappointed that there were no videos of either San Francisco or the Oakland Symphony concerts, so I was delighted to see this video appear. Haley's homage to SF was really special, and I only wish she could have sung more of it.

Anyway, viewing this video may have solved a little puzzle of ours. My wife, who was not particularly familiar with PMJ, remarked at the Club Nokia performance that she thought the show was good, but "not as professional as it could be." She commented that Haley and Maiya were standing in the background during the Shake it Off reprise finale and wondered why they didn't get more involved. I told her in other performances Maiya had sung the lead and sometimes Haley took the mic that Robyn had, but of course it all depended on the composition of the cast for the particular show. Still she felt that for a finale number the singers should all be singing (and heard). Since there were only 3 mics this of course involves sharing. I wondered why they didn't move up to share a mic with Robyn, as Morgan was doing with Ariana in LA. I've noticed from other performance videos that Ariana usually takes the mic off the stand and holds it out so others can join in with the "oh, oh, ohs." I checked out a few old PMJ videos (I'm retired and have a lot of time on my hands) and noticed that Robyn has in other performances shared her mic with other performers, so this concept should not have been foreign to her. But in this SF video it was pretty clear that she had no interest in doing so, even though Blake and Haley were standing right next to her. She could have turned just a little toward them or taken the mic off the stand to include them, just like Ariana was doing. I believe this was the first show that Haley and Robyn did together. Don't know how this went down in Oakland and Solano Beach, but, assuming nothing changed, I'm not surprised that Haley didn't bother to move up to Robyn's mic in LA and stayed in the background.

They had more performers than they did in any one show, Jacob called it "PMJ on Steroids". In addition to the troupe that performed in San Diego, Morgan and Wilki were added to the LA show, each getting a couple songs, so they had to adjust. Haley didn't perform "Habits", while Morgan, who wasn't in the SD show performed Maps, Sweet Child of Mine and Take me to Church in addition to All About That Bass.

The show went over a half hour longer than the normal 2 hour set PMJ would normally do. I've seen shows where Haley would walk off to the side, dancing with herself while others perform.

Also, Morgan wasn't at the meet and greet, which meant she might not had much time to coordinate w/ the others, or they didn't have much time among the bigger cast to figure out who sings what with whom in Shake it Off. They just knew which songs they'd be singing.

I think Robyn got to do Burn w/ Ariana and Haley instead of Morgan because Robyn was an original singer in the PMJ Burn video. Wilki got to do a couple songs too. So a much more expanded playlist (Jacob gave me the set list after the show)

I don't think there was anything to Robyn not sharing or any perceived sleight. I will say, when I saw Robyn after the San Diego show, she did seem a little out of sorts, sticking with Scott, more than the others, but I think it was a little more about the others having been on tour together longer and she hadn't had the tour miles to get better acquainted with the group that Scott had gathered.

By the LA Meet and Greet, Robyn seemed alot more upbeat and out going, who knows what goes on behind the scenes other than to say everyone is a solo artist with their own schedules. Morgan wasn't at the Meet and Greet, Haley didn't show up at the M&G until after Scott had started the introduction speech, asking each performer to tell a little something about themselves.

If there was an perception of discordance, it would be more about them having to squeeze in a couple more performers, expanding their set to accommodate them all, than anything personal among them, they seem to all get along very well, they kind of have to travel to so many cities together on a couple buses.

Tusk, first of all, a thousand thanks for all the great work you've done on Haley's behalf. And, I have personally spent many hours enjoying the various videos you have either recorded in your travels or collected from others (with proper permission from them, as you would be sure to add, of course!). Your contributions, as well as those of many others on this site, have been invaluable to both Haley and her loyal fans, including myself.

My comments were not meant to imply anything personally about Robyn, since I don't know her, but to point out something that could be improved in the future. My wife has no vested interest in any of this - she was simply accompanying me to support me. She has an extensive background in opera and has a good eye for staging. She felt the finale could have been more dynamic with a little more planning.

I, on the other hand, being a Haley fan, took it a little more personally and felt like Haley, considering her current status with PMJ, with all her video success, should have been up at a mic, not by herself because there were so many cast members, but alongside either one of the 2 side mics. If I remember correctly, in LA Robyn was alone at her mic. Really the same feeling for Maiya, who stayed in the background along with Haley. And speaking of Maiya, if people haven't checked out her background, they should. Very impressive!

Other comments about the LA performance:

I much prefer Morgan in the middle with Ariana and Haley for Burn, although I understand completely why Robyn would get the middle because of "seniority." Still sensitive about the comment that someone made on Youtube about Haley not giving her all in Burn, for some unidentified past performance. I think Haley plays it just right in Burn and harmonizes beautifully without trying to compete with the other 2 singers.

I was disappointed that this, as a season closing show, was so PMJ generic, except for the addition of the extra cast members and the guest saxophonist. I was expecting some different curtain call bits from some of the singers, similar to San Francisco. I was hoping for something other than Girls Who Want to Have Fun from Haley for LA. By the way, did anyone notice that when Ariana was whistling Hey Jude Haley looked like she was going to reprise London by hijacking the song, and Morgan was frantically trying to hold her back. Don't know if they were playing or if Haley was serious. I got the vibe that Scott was a little uptight because this was to be a big show for PMJ and didn't want any unexpected hijinks. But IMO that kinda makes closing shows fun.

Also I was surprised how many people, at least in the balcony, got up to leave without waiting for the encore. I guess a lot of people attending were not familiar enough with the show to know that it was almost 100% guaranteed that Scott would bring the cast back for AATB. Anyway, usually you can tell if the house lights don't come on then the show isn't really over.

One last comment about the Club Nokia show - my wife as I've said has an opera background, and, although she really likes Morgan (as do I) for what she does in the show as well as her own music, she winced when she attempted the Queen of the Night piece from The Magic Flute. I won't share her exact comments.

Final thought. Scott has a very ambitious schedule for this coming year. This includes a show December 11 at the Microsoft (formerly Nokia) Theatre. This may possibly be the biggest venue PMJ has ever played. Scott really needs to up his production quality for this show. This could really be a logistical challenge with shows in other cities both the day before and day after this one. As soon as I heard about this date, on the same day as the Club Nokia performance, I purchased some tickets, very reasonably priced, center orchestra, second row, through Scott's link which went to CrowdSurge at the time, betting that Haley/Casey/Morgan/Ariana might be included in this performance. A couple days later I thought about going back in for a couple more tickets for relatives, and found the game had completely changed. The link is now to AXS and in order to get seats anywhere near the stage you need to pay through the nose. The best remaining seats require purchase of a VIP package, which is not Scott's VIP meet and greet, but in addition to it.

For this kind of money he had better put on a hell of a show.

Now I know why I gave up posting on sites several years ago. I need a new 12 step Posters Anonymous program.

My friends bought tickets for the LA show as well, but weren't happy with the one's that were available, even though they got them earlier.

Some kind of hijinx at the LA venues, they bought earlier for the club Nokia show as well, best they could get, to find out the venue released better seats, later on. I chose to go to the floor than to use the seats in the balcony.

That's one of the things annoying about going to shows, anymore, the seats made available and the seemingly random nature of when they become available. Maybe it has to do with the industry of the secondary sales market, the stub hubs and what not that block out seats you can purchase even if you purchase early.

In NOLA, I bought tickets as soon as they were available, only to be seated rows behind people who bought tickets days before the show

In regards to the mics...i think it's more of a courtesy/matter of respect /kindness more than anything. Haley already got to perform the songs she was assigned to sing. Her and maiya want the other singers to have their moment in the spotlight. Plus, Haley is about to do an encore performance anyway.

and thanks for your kind words about the videos. It started out as a labour of love, sharing my experiences w/ fans who can't be there. It's still a labour of love, but I'm really a bit surprised at what it's grown into.
