RE: Haley Reinhart for Extra Gum: "Can't Help Falling in Love"

I think you're right about "songs that tell stories." That's an astute observation. Haley's voice has an emotive quality to it. Take a Disney animated film that has emotion built into it and Haley can verbalize what everyone is feeling in an unforgettable manner if given the right song.
Yes, a very good observation. She would slay a Disney animated, heart-string pulling song. But really any movie that needs a quiet, emotional, music moment. I hope Tom Hanks has seen the commercial.

Soft and tender, not overpowering. Sing in a style that sets a certain tone and mood to complement but but not distract from the visual elements of the video. That's my guess.
Last night Harry said they got a preview of the audio. The Wrigley Ad People specifically asked Ole' for Haley Reinhart and traveled to the studio to get the results they were seeking. They asked for it to be sung "sparse" which I guess means "tenderly". It fits the mood perfectly...unlike the vocal gymnastics that Jena Irene & Christina Grimmie added to show off their stuff. It was just Haley's voice and Casey's piano...nothing else...pure and simple.
Thanks for that info, Sir Himm. Being a parent of children not much older than Haley, I am just as happy for her parents as I am for Haley when great things happen for her.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Extra Ad would be nowhere near as powerful without Haley singing the song the way she did. I can understand what Himm relayed about the Ad Execs thinking the final take was perfection.
I happen to see Haley's tweet shortly after she posted it, and I teared up when I watched the Ad-- like so many others. Not so much for the Ad in general, but because I instinctively knew, as a Halien, what this might do for her career. I figured the Ad would 'blow up'. That little 'breath' she takes when the actress first enters the gallery-- pure genius, and maybe my single greatest Haley moment! I can't get enough of it.

Yes, I agree her singing adds a lot to the power of the video. Her rendition is perfect, as the ad man said. And I think it will get more attention from critics and the public as the video settles in. It doesn't get in the way, and it has subtleties that many may not consciously notice, but affects them emotionally nonetheless. I love the whole part where she is in the gallery, "take my -- hand...."
I don't know if Tom Hanks has seen it, but he will, as will lots of others who might be interested in "projects" with Haley. I think this is a game changer, especially with the other work she has done this year.
