"CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE" for Extra Gum

Not sure if this is the right place or not in the Forum, but I wonder about revenue and income for Haley given all the things happening now. It seems, she should be starting to do very well, but who knows… Right now, I see a number of sources:

• American Idol song downloads
• Listen Up downloads
• Post Modern Jukebox song downloads
• Post Modern Jukebox touring money
• Fees for "Show Me Your Moves" in Chase commercial
• Fees for "Can't Help Falling In Love" in Extra commercial
• Downloads for CHFIL (as noted over 100,000 and growing)
• "F is for Family" funds
• Her personal appearance fees for shows, etc.
• Piped Music revenue???
• Spotify or other streaming services????

So, I have no idea what percentage of monies she gets for downloads, or how American Idol/Listen Up continues to pay out, or how she worked things out with PMJ. According to Google, an independent artist selling a song via iTunes gets 70 cents of a 99 cent download. Currently CHFIL is selling for $1.29, so the percentage of artist payout would be 90 cents. So, for 100K downloads, the artist payment would be about $90,000. Of course, that $90K has to be split up among several parties. By the way, the PMJ downloads are also $1.29 each on iTunes.

For commercials like Chase and Extra, my research found that artist fees paid are based on a number of factors--an upfront fee to use the song and then payment based on number of national/regional plays. No idea on this, but more plays mean more money.

Regarding Spotify, artists are not paid per streams, but are paid based on factors like Spotify overall revenue, percentage of song streams vs overall streams, and negotiated royalty rates. But according to Time, there is a range of about .006 to .008 per stream that can be used to roughly estimate revenue. So at 10 Million streams which it is closing in on, the revenue for CHFIL could be $60,000 to $80,000. But also split up many ways.

Anyway, I am sure there are folks that know a whole lot more about this than me on the forum. It appears that Haley is starting to make some good money now, hopefully at least $100K annually. And she has smart people around her looking out for her like Dina LaPolt. All good.................

CHFIL continues to make strides on HAC radio moving from #40 to #37 over the pass 3 days with an increase of 33 spins. Over the pass 7 days, CHFIL has gained 4 new stations with 38 spins (Honolulu's KORL-FM with 5 spins isn't show below).



Things have been a little more sluggish for CHFIL on AC radio where it is at #20 after briefly being #19. It's movement on AC this week was driven by it's play on the Delilah show on ~27 iHeart RADIO stations. It was played on those stations 5 times but not in the last 2 days. For the week, CHFIL is up 17 spins.

More promotion of the song to a different audience? I wonder who made this happen, another love story - using the song for Reality TV fans. It is fun to watch this unfold for Haley, she took this song to a different level with the commercial as her back drop (or vice versa) and a lot of people are taking notice .

I met a friend from San Antonio in Austin, TX this weekend where we watch the Spurs game with another friend who resides in Austin. They played the Extra Gum commercial during the game, but we were in a bar environment where the sound was turned down.

We later moved to another bar where I used my mobile phone to introduce Haley to the Austin resident and a woman from nearby Buda. That bar closed early, so we then moved to a billiard parlor that is located only a block or so from where I used to live in Austin while attending UT.

The billiard parlor has been there all this time. It hasn't changed much, except the jukebox has been replaced with TouchTunes. So I was able to play some Haley songs -- the TouchTunes box listed her album and many numbers from American Idol.

CHFIL has moved up to #34 on HAC with 2 songs going recurrent this week. It remains at #20 on AC. It should get at least one add on HAC today as KHMX-FM in Houston tweeted about in on Saturday and has since has given it 2 spins.

Yes, I've seen it lately. They played it on Saturday afternoon on ESPN during college hoops. It was the semi long version, not the really short 15s one I'd seen earlier in Jan.

Now that I'm leaving the HAC radio station on in my car, I'm hearing CHFIL regularly. Last night coming home from Target, and on Saturday on the way home from the Gym. Based on the kind of tunes the station plays, I could see them playing BETTER. They play a pretty wide variety of music.

106.1 is in Mansfield, OH. They serve "mid Ohio" and air "Today's Hits, Yesterday's Favorites."

The station is currently owned by Johnny Appleseed Broadcasting Company and features programming from ABC Radio, Premiere Radio Networks and Westwood One.
