I disagree with those rankings...a lot..

IMO, if Lambert isn't #1 or #2, it's discredited off the bat. But the idea that Phillip Phillips, Fantasia, Carrie (yes Carrie..go back and listen to her performances), Ruben, Clay, Daughtry...I could go on..are better than Haley? Lol.

So true, especially for Adam. Also, Scotty is ranked higher than Haley. WTF!. He arguably had only one memorable moment. Haley had numerous WOW moments-- same for Adam. If you ranked the list by the number of truly memorable performances, then Haley is in the top handful.

So much of the results were skewed by the voting rules. In general, the voting was fairly accurate weening out the top half of the talent pool every season. After the first few seasons, the WGWG effect dominated the results for the winner. Under those rules, winning was going to be tough for contestants like Adam and Haley. Sometimes the WGWG was actually the most talented singer, like Phillip-- but most often not.

I couldn't tell if the rankings were one guys personal opinion or how much he took data from the "What not to sing" site's song rankings(he cited that WNTS but then in the write up praised Haley for different songs"

These lists are matters of opinion, and I thouroughly support people having different opinions.

I also find it really interesting to hear what other people think about all sorts of topics and I wish (and I'm still working on that site I have) it was easier for people to share their thoughts on all these types of lists we have "experts" expressing their opinions on (from their favorite guitar players to dog breed types and AI contestants)

The one flaw to the concept is that it makes people order things they might equally like...but just choosing to whether to include a few out of 50 ...which ones make the list is interesting to me at least.

I've never paid too much heed to the "competition" element of the shows...very definitely I've never cared much past the top 4....I found it interesting who people liked the most up to the top 4...but I wouldn't call that a matter of "who gave better performances" but just because it was interesting to see "what sorts of things does america like"

Basically in my mind I turn the competitions around into a means to see a slice of american opinion.

I do also like discussing most things, so one thing about the "competition" is that it makes more people interested in talking about their impressions of a given performance. That is just more sport for me enjoying expressing and hearing opinions than it is about any objective attempt to rate people.

They get access and have been interviewing America's got Talent judges and contestants the last few years among alot of other things they get involved in. Here's their interview of Haley almost 3 years ago

I think they were 15 (?) then, in college now and have published a well received book since then!

First Person: My ‘American Idol’ Experience, by Paul McDonald

...I sat down at a table at Red Door in Midtown and had a drink with our guitar player’s then-girlfriend, Joy Spears. Joy is a mega-talented dancer that had just been on the show So You Think You Can Dance. During our conversation, she mentioned that the producers of SYTYCD also produced American Idol and then casually mentioned that I should try out – the auditions happened to be the next day. At first thought, the band was in between managers and I was never home on the weekends anyway… I should just do it. Joy told me how the show had helped ignite her career and also spoke very highly of Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, the guys who produced both shows. Inner monologue aside, I quickly laughed at her suggestion and decided not to put much stock in it. See, I didn’t know too much about Idol then, but to me, it felt like a show that went against everything I stood for artistically.

After a few drinks, however, I told her I’d at least think about it. Later that night, we went home to the band house in East Nashville to keep the party going. We hung out, we drank, we played music; I’m pretty sure we were up till almost 4 or 5 a.m. The next morning, I woke up around noon and walked upstairs. A bunch of people had crashed at our place and one of the girls from the night before told me that Joy made her promise to get me up and take me to the Idol auditions. So there I was, super-hungover, my voice shot from tracking vocals on a new song ("American Dreams”) until almost sunrise, with a quasi-stranger demanding I get into her car to go to the Idol auditions.

...In retrospect, I’m so grateful that I was encouraged – coerced, even – to walk into that arena that Nashville Sunday and sing my best hungover version of “Tutti Frutti.” American Idol is one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had, or will ever have.

After multiple failed adjustments and uploads, trying to contact the people who put a claim blocking it from being seen in the US, it looks like this might stick...

I tried muting the 'offending' part, but apparently the claim is also on the visual part, so I tried deleting the 30 second segment out completely, so at least you can see a minute's worth of "Beautiful" (adding a note to say that the whole performance can be seen via link in the description)

I also took the opportunity to improve transition from show to performance as well as evening out the volume between segments (RITD used to be alot louder than the segments before and after it)......so crossing my fingers it all stays up

Also you might notice this is higher resolution than Parts 1 and 3 because when I posted the original vids, I was posting them at 720P. This one is at 1080P, so better resolution

On Haley's Journey part 3

I have watched Haley Reinhart's journey and I love her voice. I now see what Michael Slezak and Melinda Doolittle said about how they treated Haley. Can't wait to get to work to look for her CD. She has a beautiful bluesy (don't know if that's a word) Rock and Roll voice. Just love hearing her and Casey together. She should have been in the finale but it doesn't matter we are still getting to see and hear Haley and that speaks volumes.
