She climbed her way to the top three on Season 10 of American Idol, captivating people worldwide with her raspy, Janis Joplin-like voice and voluminous blonde curls. But the world had much greater plans for Haley Reinhart, her career has been full of tracks that bring us back to the soft, acoustic melodies of the early ’70s and the powerhouse vocals and full-band sound of ’60s acts like Led Zeppelin and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Reinhart moves in her own way, however. On her new album What’s That Sound?, she pays tribute to some of the most influential people in early rock ’n’ roll. She did a sultry spin on The Box Top’s “The Letter,” and somehow, made it the “Jolene” of the millennial generation, through meticulously chopped verses that showcase what the Chicago-native can really do with her voice. An original tune of Reinhart’s, “Let’s Start,” opens the record, its reverbed vocals sounding both Beach Boys and badass lyrics. “I’m drowning in your love completely / So deeply, dear, in seas of blue and green at rapid speed / Carry me swiftly” are arranged with infectious hand-clapping and string instruments that remind us Reinhart is a serious contender on her way to the hall of fame.

ARRGGHH I can’t believe how stupid I am......I didn’t reqest off work for Haley’s show! I could’ve sworn I did it right after buying the ticket but NO. I will write my boss a note next week, and it should be ok.....he knows how dedicated I am to work and he’s very nice. But I am still badly freaking out! GRRRR

If you're wondering about video, I think my editing software did some kind of update because every video I output now, on Youtube, is a 360 video, instead of 2D and distorted. I'm going to have to wait until I get home before I can work on them with the older version, none 360, software... which is kind of a bummer, but it is what it is, Can't kill my buzz, Rachel, Avelene and I made Haley's Instagram

I tried to resist watching videos of the early tour before my showings in MN & IL but when it comes to special guest appearances by Casey Abrams & Scott Bradlee I certainly can't resist. Thanks for your perfect capture location and quality Rachel!

Last night, we got into San Fran and decided to take a walk around the city. I noticed a little blues club on the corner called Biscuits & Blues so we stopped in to check out the line up and it turned out that Chicago guitar legend, Harvey Mandel, who played lead on The Rolling Stones single “Hot Stuff” in 1976 (and also toured with Buddy Guy, Canned Heat and Charlie Musselwhite) was doing a set there with his band so we bought tickets and watched the show.

Afterwards, Haley Reinhart and I met him and hung out for a bit. He’s gonna come see us at the American Music Hall here tonight. On the way back to our hotel afterwards while on a high, we ran into a man who was walking a white rabbit down the street on a leash. That was insanely ironic because Haley recorded the Jefferson Airplane tune “White Rabbit” on her latest record and we’ve been playing it every night on this tour. When does something like that happen? Life feels cosmic and awesome. Maybe I’m living in the “Upside Down.”

First time I heard Haley sing this was at the Private Party was a wonderful surprise, one of my favorites, She and Ray rehearsed it at Solana Beach, Don't Know Why

Last year they rehearsed MJ medley in LA then replaced Siitting on the Dock of the Bay on the set for the rest of the tour. Hopefully she'll do that with Don't Know Why

PMJ JUST CANCELLED THEIR 11/2 CHICAGO SHOW. My comment left for PMJ: "Now maybe Haley Reinhart can come home for Ground Hog Day and PMJ the day after. Her solo show in Denver was conflicting with your November 2nd date and her show in Chicago is Nov. 5th which was likely for low tickets sales to that awkward date.
