Sooo....long story short. (Not so short)

Today is also my birthday. When I was 17 I went on a blind date with the friend of the brother of a girl I had a crush on in school. He was taking his girlfriend to a concert and she had a friend and wanted to know if I would be her blind date. "Sure", I said, thinking that maybe it was his sister....it wasn't.

We go to the concert, have a great time, go to Pizza Hut afterwards and during the usual "70s conversation" stuff she asks me what sign I am. "I'm an Aries." "So am I." " No way...when's your birthday?" "March 26th." "NOOOO WAYYY...that's MY birthday!!!" "NOOO WAAYYYY!!!"

At which point we had to compare IDs. Yup...same birthday. We were together for 2 years (1st loves for us both), almost got married but never quite got there. She married someone else, had 3 great kids, got sick, came home to get some closure, part of which was catching back up with me, and passed away shortly after.

We talked about the blind date concert night when we met and how great it was, and how it was a jumping off point for "us."

The concert was Aerosmith. I didn't find out until quite later that it was also Steven Tyler's birthday on "our" day.

Like our girl Haley doesn't believe in "signs???"

I'm sure things will change the more I listen, but these were my initial impressions. More "misses" for me than from Better, but the "hits" here hit harder for me.

IMO there's no 'miss' just because I love to hear anything Haley sings, her voice is my trigger.

I will say there are songs that stand out, that pop more for me at first listen, so I'll list those in no particular order, maybe a short description.

I should say, of the already released songs, DKHTLY, HTTD and LFS are at the top of my favorites already

Deep Water, fantastic start to the album, it's a great intro to the vibe for the album that follows.

Oh Damn, I admit I needed to come back to this again, it's reminiscent of a bygone era of the 60's doo wop era.  Sort of makes me think the easy, swampy mood might have been Drew inspired?

Strange World, I was expecting moody, instead, I got an upbeat tropical fun song.  Totally can see Haley having a blast performing this w/ Casey under his Mango tree

Shook, I heard earlier on College Radio, love the 60's spy movie sound, from the "To Sir With Love" era.

Broken Record, snappy, reminds me of young motown, James Brown, Tina Turner vibe, a crowd pleaser performed live

How Dare You.... tbh, I thought HDY was the odd one out of all the new songs I've heard, BUT I will say, it's my biggest surprise, put a smile on my face how sizzling hot the song is.  Shot up to one of my favorites from earlier thinking it's an after thought ....

All together I would say I LOVE a good 7-8 songs.  The other songs might need a few more listening to, but the ones I've listed, I went to my go to, how does it make me 'feel' when I listen to it... and these songs I listed all gave me a shot of Haley adrenalin

I have to say though, DKHTLY HTTD and How Dare You might be my top three at the moment... subject to change

Baby Doll will be her hit song calling it now. Fits Ariana Grande popular music, if they can promote that one. Sleeper hits are the ballads she has.

Songs I find myself not skipping are Deep Water, Oh Damn, Lay It Down, Broken Record, Some Way Some How, How Dare You, and Baby Doll.

My top 3 tracks: Baby Doll, Broken Record, Some Way Some How

7 hours in, I think Some Way Some How is the best song that Haley has ever written (it's a breath of fresh air on an album where, for me, the songwriting is super inconsistent - my main issue with many of the songs is at some times the lyrics come off as quite cheesy or camp for me - such a HTTD).
