RE: "Listen Up!" - Haley's first album
OK, I've now checked out the full version. Listened through several times from beginning to end. Here's my take...
At the risk of being flamed for Halien treason, I've gotta admit I'm not a fan of Oh My! It's just not my taste in music. The heavy production, the repetitive, overpowering, theatrical noise from the horns, the odd selection of early Motown combined with orgasmic screaming, yodeling and forced rapping...honestly, I found it more hot mess than hot new single, and really just was glad when it was over.
I think if she had made this into a torchy, bluesy number with Cajun influence it would have delivered that "sticky, swampy" feel more effectively while better emphasizing her hot, sexy lyrics and vocals. That said, I do want her to succeed, so I hope she gets the commercial success everyone seems to think it will have.
OK...preparing for my execution now. Will it be guillotine. stoning, hanging, firing squad, electric chair, lethal injection...???

RE: Happy for Haley
Raw Tracks Music (blog)
SOUL | Haley Reinhart f/ B.o.B – “Oh My”
5 stars
Quote:This song caught me completely off guard and I’m 100% on board and have it on repeat (people overuse that phrase, but it is literally on repeat right now).
For those of you who don’t know (that includes us), Haley Elizabeth Reinhart is a 21 year old singer from Chicago who placed 3rd in this last season of American Idol. Her 14-song debut album Listen Up! is set to release on May 22nd, and this impressive collaboration (and only guest on the album) with B.o.B will be her 2nd single from the album, full of soulful blues-infused pop songs similar to…dare we say…Adele. A record deal with Interscope/19 should definitely help push Haley out to the world and make her a star. A voice like hers is destined for greatness. I haven’t watched American Idol since my girl Carrie won, but if someone like this got 3rd this year, the winner must have been great…but probably isn’t since America chooses and we all know what the radio sounds like these days.

Well you can bet, I will be selling tickets to the hanging an autographed posters of the cyanide hole of myself. I'm just not digging the song at all,but if B.oB. Can help push Haley farther I'm okay with that.
BUt I still love the Hales

It is repetitive and needed the rap interlude. But like it or not many of the characteristics you mention could propel it up the charts. I hope it does well, makes a lot of $ for Interscope, and allows her even more creative freedom for her future projects.
