Oh my goodness, I have so many favorite movies for so many different reasons (like y'all I reckon). OK, so the movie that led to posting this thread is an old movie (1982) I just saw for the first time, "The Man from Snowy River". I can't say it's my favorite movie, but oh man, I sure liked it. The next movie that I watch will be its sequel, "Return to Snowy River".
It's an Australian Western with very impressive cinematography and very beautiful music (the scenery and the score were equally enjoyable to me). Just the scenes where the men rode to reclaim a lost stallion were worth the time it took to watch the entire movie. I even liked the somewhat corny story, finding it very heartwarming and satisfying. The movie is about a mountain "boy" who loses his father and has to prove his manhood before he can claim his right to live on the family farm amongst the "mountain men"; He subsequently finds a job with a rich rancher and eventually falls for the daughter. And yes, I suppose it is as much a love story as anything else, but the draw into it is powerful (and achieved without any Hollywood glitter).
But the primary reason I love this movie is the soundtrack. Here's a little sample:
