Yay Midnight ... I'll second all of that, and broke out the sentences to make all of your sentiments a bit easier to read.
I'll add some personal ones of mine(that have a bit different flavor but in no way conflict with my support of Midnights thoughts):
I think Haley is doing great - she's been earning a living , peforming , opening new doors for herself, on top of making some great music.
I really dislike any negative talk about Interescope. They are business people and from my perspective have performed quite honorably and given Haley quite a lot of support.
- talk of "squeezing profits" out of her really riles me a bit. I'm a businessman. Selling things at a profit isn't squeezing profits out of people. Its a matter of giving people a good or a service and charging a price they are happy to pay for it over comporably services.
- investors are supposed to hope for profits on investments.. that's good.. that's progress thats' what keeps this country inovating (ok might be going a bit far there politically, just wanted to add some balance)
-- their "investment" isn't limited to the strict "out of pocket" cash they put up. The men and women in this field are experts and need to earn a decent living or they could be making a large expert at other things they apply themselves to (law , accounting et) with thier competance and work ethics. The organizations have office space and staff to pay on tope of the 'big wigs" that are easier to bash. Getting that contract with Walmart has to do with a business relationship their organziation has built and very often sometimes there are things like "calling in favors" etc ... and many of Haley's appearaces can have come from things like that... giving access to a bigger star if they take a package of smaller stars on shows etc. There is an opportunity cost... they can't throw their weight everywhere.. to the extent the put some behind Haley they are taking a larger risk in their overhead and time etc. Their business is built on having larger success of super stars occasiionally to pay for the efforts that really wouldn't keep the doors open that were efforts trying. If you've ever worked in a business that doesn't get paid by the job but by occasional windfalls and many times were you work hundreds of hours (if not thousands on a real estate development project) and get nothing, those times when you get a huge return per hour need to average in the failures before you start crowing about how much you made on just your sucesses.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY from a fan perspective (yes i don't expect the fan board to care particularly about interscopes profit because it is a fan board) they gave her access to handfuls of the best song writers and musiciians to write songs and record with.
Thats all about the music and even if they dropped her like a rock (which they show no sign of doing ... some agent is getting her high profile appearances like the all star game and song in step-up etc)
--- They hepled her make a great album. .. that can't be "Undone" .. even in the unlikely event that all doors suddenly closed and she went on and lived a productive life like becoing a school principal or something, that album and those songs are there, and Interscope played a big assist in that.
But as for the future.
There is a delicate line between being a Fan of a performers work and becoming fanatic about the details on a Career basis. Wishing well is understandable, but I started thinking that, I really can't go crossing that line and even reading too many people going across that line temps me to start expressing opinions where I really shouldn't be.
- I love her music, I want to hear more of it.
- So following of career can be fun in the same way that following a sports team's off season trades are. I supose thats not entirely un-healthy...yet..
- contrasting that, there are real people involved here and this isn't exactly open busienss like a sports team.... some of the stuff isn't really meant for public speculation... at least im not comfortable with it.
Thank u I forgot bout that
