RE: Aug 29 - radio promo with S11 Idols
Great peformances by all of the Idols...
This band at the event is incredibible. A rhythym section can give so much. And the difference between good and great is so important.
Its not just for our ear for them.. its what they do for the performer... the lead has such a firm foundation to stand on their lead vocal peformances are better for it.
Jessica singing the blues
That girl understands the blues.. (in my opinion)
She's got so much more soul than the sould singer Josh below
Its a good song they have for him but (in my opinion) he shows what drives me nuts about him.. a style of ignoring the kind of rythym I prefer in the blues..
Josh Ledet singing a new song of his
(although Josh Ledet just doesn't get it.. this band is playing blues perfectly and he refuses to go to the latent blues tradition.. rushes the notes and has no sway to it... the band gives up a bit trying to groove after its clear he won't groove and moves closer to a 4 4 rhythm but how do you play blues without a grove)
Here is Phillip doing volcano.. he also does "home" which i won't link.
and home
The band was a tiny bit hemmed in by the canned track
but its the best version of the song I've heard and Phillip was digging it a lot..
that sychopated beat the drummer was putting in (bordering on a ska beat) and the bit more driving almost "fiddle" ho down energy subtly in the backround.
Soooo much better without that stupid March 4-4 rythym in the studio version and you could see phillip responding to teh song he's on record for not really liking.
He really is a good musician. Even his guitar playing is up to the quality of the guys on stage (he knows what he can do and stays to doing rythym guitar just right for the song)
Colton does two decent songs.. one of his own.. pretty good but not mycup of tea . He does well enough at this rock song.. but this band.. again.. where are they from ? they're so good.. I don't think colton lives up to the quality of the band... almost fights them with mediocre flow
I'd love to hear the musicians on stage impressions about if they thought the kids were pro's or not. I got the feeling they would respect Haley and Jessica and Phillip a good deal from the respect they showed and responded symbiotically with how they were able to mesh with those singers in the performances,, with an un spoken communication and feedback loop.
