RE: "Wasted Tears"
Its interesting
I like the song well enough, but I don't think she's done her own song justice yet.
I find it a bit grating, but I think it could be so much more. I could say the same about Free at first, but i think the accoustic versions of that song with John Notto on The view, and even better at that restauraunt finally got Free to the point it was really enjoyable to me.
But its a matter of personal taste I suppose.. I found miguels favorite to be one of myEdit (less..way better than first ones with original keyboardist) favorite. I think I really like the up-beat emphasized more and want even that to emphasize the 2 and 4 beats still a bit more.
In addition, I think Haley can bring much more of her sweeter sound to this song rather than blaring a squeak sound on "wasted , wasted" parts.
The notto version wasn't bad but it still had too much consitent back round for me (probaly unavoidable with just a guitar, but I think ever there there is some room for artistic interpretation where haley would lead the song a abit differently.
I think she's going the right direction (using the sweeter parts of her voice more) in the performance Buzz captured (but the background sound quaulity wasn't as great as it could be..Buzz figured that out by lola palooza (and I'd have done even worse by far with a recorder)
this one from two days ago was moving some ways I liked .. with a lighter accompanyment from Dad Reinhart and (also) with a sweeter sound from Haley
Still, I think it can groove in some more intersting ways
three ideas to stretch it different wayss:
I'd like to see this maybe performed with a stand up bass and a just a snare and a high hat with a brush...
or maybe even something way off.. a marimba and a rhumba beat? (that would be waaaay offf a different direction)... but I thing some experimentation could push this song to make it all that ican be.
Here is another waaay off kinda sound that could be brought to it.
It takes some imagination to know where I'm going with this and to make Wasted tears fit this kinda grove would take some major changes to the song in some ways but anyway... some people might know where i'm going with it.
