The album thing -- timing and control
WE know from reports that Pia began working on her album not long after she was booted from the show. According to former contestant Tim Halperin, who spoke with her when the tour passed through the DFW area last week, it's practically complete.
Scotty gave an interview with a Houston radio station today in which he said he was working on an album that should be released in the early fall. The interviewer asked him about writing his own songs and he affirmed that he does but this album is happening so quickly...hopefully as they get more albums out later... [he'll have the opportunity to contribute]
Scotty stated they pitch him songs but he makes the final call..."it's not about me, it's about selecting songs the audience wants to hear."
The same station interviewed Lauren and she said she is halfway done recording her album and is "recording tomorrow" in Atlanta, GA. She stated her producer is awesome and the album is supposed to come out sometime this fall.
These productions all seem a bit rushed to me, reflecting a desire to strike while the iron is hot. In a similar vein, many of the Idol's iTunes were apparently completed in a single take.
So where does this leave Haley Reinhart?
Someone who met her at a tour meet-and-greet said "it's going to be awhile until her album comes out. She said she’s taking things one at a time and is just focused on the tour right now."
Although I want an album from her soon, I prefer it to be one she's proud to release. It is clear from some comments she made previously that the single they were going to release wasn't up to her standards.
If they allow her to be, I believe she will be demanding in the choice of songs and she has the vocal ability to quickly nail the sound they want.
But I don't want the production to be as rushed as the iTunes because I believe there is some truth to the criticism she doesn't always connect with the lyrics. I think she's capable of that but has had such a trouble-free life so far (I hope she continues to have one) and the production has been so rushed that some nuances have been lost. But if they slow the process down and give her time to relate to the lyrics and help her understand the nuances she can nail them.
A small concern I have is her apparent desire to give off a sultry vibe (see tour). I think she can do that but an entire album of that type of music would be a mistake.
My primary concern is the production -- the instruments and backup vocals and how they use them.
What say ye? What do you think we can expect in terms of timing, content and production values?
