RE: Haley's invitation......
It wouldn't be until only a few weeks before that it would be prudent careerwise to even offer a conditional commitment that would be broken if something really big came up. I really hope people don't pressure her anymore to commit this far in advance when she must leave all her options open.
If she were interested, and ended up being free as the date of the event approached, it certainly could be a nice story that might get a bit of gossip coverage here and there and even more.. , if given a chance to sing as part of a program might have a lot of men ready to help her in a pinch. (and once a marine always a marine and lots of those people have strings they can pull if needed for permision to hold a special event some where etc) .
It would have to feel right to her culturally etc.
I think that the way these things are done for formal events in "polite society" would be for her to bring one or two friends to be escorted by other cadets and all the couples would sit at the same table and go too and from the event and after-parties together.
That sort of escort to a formal isn't really a "date" at all .. and it could be appropriate to be escorted to such and affair with the good wishes of a boyfriend etc. A woman couldn't go alone to a formal... even if she were married, if her husband couldn't attend, she'd have a friend of the family or something escort her to social events that where a lady must be seen. (mock old money voice should be imagined)
