I believe the view counts for X-Factor on YouTube are so high because people can watch and "follow" the show on the YouTube channel. American Idol apparently doesn't do this because they broadcast the show in other countries at a later date.

CHILE - During her tour of Chile this week, Sec. of State Clinton was often confused for American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres.

Clinton (right) was mistaken for Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres (left) this week in Chile.Chilean crowds would often spontaneously form and mob the Secretary as she toured parts of Chile's earthquake ravaged regions this week, asking for autographs, fighting for photographs, and trying to rip parts of the Secretary's pantsuit as keepsakes. At first, Secretary Clinton believed this was just an unusually warm reception for those in dire need of U.S. disaster assistance. Later it was discovered that the crowds were, in fact, screaming "Ellen!" and mistaking the Secretary for American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres.

Speaking of Idol being seen in other countries, many of the comments on RITD are from outside the U.S. On the just the first page at YT there are comments from Turkmenistan, Singapore, Serbia, Romania, Italy, and the Philippines. It looks like it accounts for some of those high view rates on RITD.
