Sadly tickets for shows on Broadway can be more than that. Even musicals away from Boardway in the NYC suburbs can be $50+. I assume Chicago is the same. Concerts by anyone famous can be $40 to $100 plus. When Kellie Pickler was doing here show in NY suburbs the tickets were $35 to $75 and for $35 you get the last two rows in the back.
Yes, expensive tickets but people pay it. If you can find local bands that are good and free for $10 it's a super bargain these days. Appropriate and support the local talent. I remember when Jimmy Buffet played local bars with a $10 cover now he's in town this summer with tickets selling for $75 to over $1000 for VIP!
