If I was his boss I woulda kicked him off the force. Wonder what woulda happened if a celebrity got pulled over just for a cop to say hi and they were caught with alcohol or marijuana on their breath. Well, depending on his prior history, kicking him off the force might be a bit extreme, but some form of discipline would seem appropriate. If not downright abuse, it would seem that it's, at least, a misuse of position/badge.
And, in regards to your earlier remark about Mark Furhman, he may likely still be (comfortably) ensconced in Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho.
