Very courteous,respectful of you Tusk. You like other of us older businessmen and businesswomen know how the world works.
Banter about contracts that don't have the ink dry on them can be a very serious impediment to opportunities. Contracts about partnerships and hiring etc are almost always very delicate things with hair triggers to send them off course.
One of most common issue has to do with lines of command where a boss or a committee has delegated a trusted other to make contract decisions SUBJECT to the Approval of the board etc. . If the board(or executive etc) feels like their authority has been ignored... or if someone on a lateral level was not advised first as a team expects.. noses get bent out of shape in a serious way(they feel their role threatened).
The protocol is vital.. .rumors "last to know" etc ... well
