I still recall one of Haley's early comments in an Idol interview, and I'm paraphrasing..."I've just been focusing on the right side of the brain so that I wouldn't have to focus on the left side."

Haley is already a wonderful success! We just want others to realize it too!

You got that right Buzz , and you raise a good point.

Haley has commented on several occasions that she wants to be involved and have meaningful control in all aspects of making a record and in directing her career. Haley appears to be proceeding carefully and taking a long view. She has no doubt become increasingly aware of all the mines one can step on in the industry. I also believe Haley to be a bit of a perfectionist and she would not want to later regret being associated with something that was less than high quality or something not consistent with her personal values.

As we know, one thing Haley is doing right now is taking the UCLA extension course "Legal and Practical Aspects of the Music Business" taught by Dina Lapolt. Very left brain. And relevant to some of the themes we've discussed in this thread.

The critical topics covered in the course include (per LaPolt):
- Topics and agreements relating to music publishers, record labels, producers and remixers, merchandise companies, sponsorships and endorsement deals, and the artist’s executive team
- Understanding the various ways in which rights are exploited and monetized
- Understanding how revenue streams are generated
- Rights relating to trademark and the right of publicity
- Legal aspects of social networking sites and online multi-channel networks
- Discussions relating to building the artist’s brand as a business
- Issues relating to current legislation and the effect on the creative community
