RE: Casey in Seattle (Finally!)
I once read or heard somewhere that Frank Sinatra had some sort of trick breathing when holding notes. It seems that he doesn't take a breath, but he actually does sneak one in. I don't know if it's the same kind of thing. I looked up circular breathing--cause I haven't heard the term. It does seem to be almost impossible--but if anyone can do it--Jacob can. He's quite remarkable.
I'm sorry that u didn't have the conversation you wanted to with Casey. I had a similar experience with him a bit. I was nervous and I wanted say some stuff that I didn't. I think when u are looking forward to meeting someone and have a scenario planned out some in your head--it doesn't always work out. I'm a huge James Taylor fan--and got to go to the sound check during the Troubadour Tour with Carole King.. I knew I was going to meet them afterwards. I had my James Taylor sheet music book that I've had since high school with me. I knew what I wanted to say. He sat down right in front of me to chat. My mind went blank. My husband did all the talking. James couldn't have been nicer. But, I still regret that I couldn't make much conversation.
I get exactly what you are saying about Jacob. There is something extra special about him. I think you described it very well. An inner light kind of thing. I had great rapport with him when I met him in NYC. We talked for about 20 min or more after the show. We discussed bassist Leland Sklar-- who is a friend of Jacob. I had met him at the Troubadour sound check-he was in the band. We talked about James Taylor-- and the late great Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Robben Ford and others. It was great.
And I agree--Casey and Taylor are wonderful also--great energy and terrific. I just love Casey--he is so interesting to me. I love his vibe and talent. I guess it's that Jacob was talking to me more--so I felt a connection to him.
IA, these three guys really have something special going. They are all so talented and have incredible chemistry. In NYC--I saw a late show on a Thursday nite in Feb. It was snowy and icy and freezing out. So, most of the people had been to the earlier show. Anyway, it was a very free form type performance. Even more than usual I think. They just all flowed with it. It was cool
