Adele talks about mic mishap at the Grammys Crying
Quote:...During a sit-down interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, the 27-year-old singer (she has this song “Hello” you may be familiar with) said that sound check “was great, went really well.” But as soon as she started singing album standout “All I Ask” onstage, during the ceremony, she knew things had gone wrong. “I was really excited, and then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings which is what the guitar noise was,” she said.
She went on, also addressing the “pitchiness” some heard in her voice: “I heard [the guitar noise] straight away. And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze. But I actually felt like it went well. In the room they actually sorted the problem and I’m always a bit pitchy anyways so I wasn’t particularly . . . It’s emotion. It’s emotion. When I’m flat and I’m sharp I’m just emotional but it was fine.”
And then, in her extremely endearing way, she explained that when she woke up the next morning, half expecting everyone to have moved on, she was upset to find . . . everyone still talking about it. “I wanted to tell everyone straight away because it seemed to be a lot of confusion about what it was . . . I was embarrassed. I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, ‘We still love you, don’t worry,’ and I was like, I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks. I was so embarrassed.” She added, “I cried pretty much all day yesterday. In fairness I would have cried if it went really well as well. If it was a standout performance I would have cried as well. I always cry.”
