RE: As 2017 draws to a close, what's next for Haley?
So, I have not really posted in awhile, and this is a good thread for kind of end of year thoughts…so…
What is next for Haley? Well, the good news is that Concord (hopefully) is committed to Haley for the long term and is not going to push her for radio hits or big sales. WTS charted in the sixties which I think is great considering that there was very little promotion on a national level. And, the fact that the Concord President John Burk worked with Haley on WTS and named her as a producer tells me he has a lot of respect and admiration for her. It was also cool to hear that Haley had a lot of offers on the table and chose Concord because of its history and commitment to its artists. I think she has found a home there.
Regarding WTS, I really love it. I have found I am playing it much more than her other CDs, especially in the mornings, in the car. It is just fun to listen to and every song is a gem in its own way. Favorites? I love “You Showed Me” as her voice just takes me to another place. “These Boots” is tailor made for Haley. “Words of Love”, “Sunny Afternoon”, and “The Letter” are so much fun. “Let’s Start” had to grow on me, but now it is a real earworm—evoking Brasil 66, and I love the spacey tripped out video. “Somewhere In Between” is a lush dark song—very cool. And, I do like “Bring The Love Back Home” as well—it has a great singalong chorus line.
So, what is next—I actually think Haley is going to give acting a real hard go. She noted in one interview how she has received callbacks for things but could not do them due to music commitments. She has talked about becoming an actress since her Idol days, and I really think she is going to try and make something happen in that area next year.
As far as the next CD—which may not be for a while, I would really like to see her do a mix of covers and originals more focused on blues and jazz. Maybe something like a Norah Jones CD with a little more punch. Also Concord has a wide range of artists that would be cool for Haley to work with.
Anyway, as Haliens, we have to be happy with Haley’s continued success and growth as an artist. Three albums, a Gold Record, CLIO Award, two headlining tours in two years, and so much success with PMJ—the touring and millions and millions of views on YouTube. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Halien Nation, and look forward to seeing what magic Haley brings in 2018.
