RE: New single June 1st - "Last Kiss Goodbye"
I like it! For me it turns out to be a huge earworm that is difficult to get out of my head once I'm into it. Haley I think has never been interested in being a powerhouse superstar in the mainstream, I think she wants to be a superb creator and artist/performer of demanding music with sublime qualities from the established to the newly created, from the sophisticated to the relaxed to the rocky push, from covers to her own material. This fits right in. It is well done, beautiful, intricate, sublime,
classic. It is dancey and pensive, it is teasing but self-conscious, at the same time vulnerable and confidently foward-looking. Or just playful. Or just serious underneath a cover. Or all of the above, simply alive, an engagement with all that the real world has to offer. To sum it up: I think the seeming simplicity is deceptive. It is anything but.
As for summer anthem, well anthem maybe is debatable in the strict sense, but why not redefine what counts as a key song these days and call it a potential anthem nonetheless - but if you look at the video, one word comes to mind, and that is summer (ok, also Haley). Well done, also, in my opinion, in a much more sublime way than perhaps initially meets the eye. This video works so much better than is obvious at first. As the music, it has a subversive quality. Which is all Haley ...
And, other than chfil and company, this one is all her own.
It'll stay and grow and prove it does not fade I think.
But for now, summer!
