I'll be there.
for what it's worth, Reddit gets a really unfair bad reputation in the press because of a small subsegment of it's users related to reactionary right politics.
There are also reactionary left politics but neither of those tell the value of the place.
I lost 60lbs last year via support at the r/keto forum
I got in great physical shape with support from their Body Weigh Fitness forum
https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/
There are forums on vintage furniture , jokes etc
MODERATION : each forum gets moderated 2 ways - Each forum's community makes it's own rules for decorum - some are the trashy trolling you might read of but those are on subjects you do not need to go at all
1) Voting system by users promotes comments voted up to the top (although the threading system will let people try to glom on, even within that next tier the better ones rise up - Down-voted comments get hidden by default unless a users has that system turned off
2) Topics are run by individuals that create them(not reddit the business) and usually they appoint other people as co-moderators . Active forum moderators will delete "low effort" posts or off topic comments depending on the level of discussion they expect. The different forums will often have special threads of the day for more gossipy questions.. although each forum has different standards.
3) Flagging.. like all forums for the most offensive stuff reddit itself might step in but that is the last resort and generally they won't do much of it if people go off to their own corners - you might find some really offensive stuff if you went to the wrong place but it doesn't take long to figure out you're on a bad topic and "unsubscribe" from it if you somehow accidentally got subscribed.
forums about Jokes and Funny or WhatCouldGoWrong are filled with snarky puns and one liners but even those get policed by
But forums like r/history and r/philosophy and many others delete even clean jokes or opinion that isn't backed up with at least some attempt at sharing useful information and references - or if not deleted they just get voted down and hidden.
https://www.reddit.com/r/history/ hiostoyr has 13 million readers and thousands of active ones with really good exchanges on book titles and concise sharing of past connected events
there are forums on many computer languages and technical skills like woodworking etc
On a thing like a Pop Music AMA it might be in between, you might see some snarky comments but JUST vote them down .. they get hidden unlike YouTube where the trolls get shown even higher because of responses
The moderators in pop culture thing probably won't go around deleting posts unless they are openly obscene, (i.e. you might see a couple dumb blond jokes -survive ) but just ignore the stupid ones and if you make a good point you'll see you get 10x the up-votes as the rude person.
Upvote good questions and they will rise to the top and bury the bad ones.. taking the high road keeps most of the forums at the site pretty clean and polite (outside of some questionable puns)
