WARNING!!!
I think I've just been screwed. Based on this posting YESTERDAY, which by the way accurately reflects what is still being advertised on the Cerritos Center website, last night I purchased an orchestra seat for $100 and airfare to Long Beach to see Haley at this performance. Now TODAY, it is announced that Haley is adding a US tour, which includes Asbury Park, NJ on April 10,
the same day as this event. Normally I wouldn't have jumped so fast on a trip like this, but there was one exceptionally good orchestra seat available, and it is Easter weekend, so I expected that airfares should go up soon substantially. I thought it was a smart move to act fast. I had no reason to doubt the information. However, I did get an uneasy feeling when I got my email from the center acknowledging the completed purchase with the description "Featuring Special Guest Laura Osnes." I figured that since we haven't heard about this date until yesterday Haley probably was a recent replacement for Laura, and not vice versa. By the way, I have nothing against Laura Osnes. She is a major Broadway talent and appears frequently at Feinstein 54 Below in New York. I saw her here in Las Vegas last year as part of a group of performers from the Broadway musical Bandstand. But, I am not an Osnian, I am a Halian. I would not have arranged this trip if I knew it was Laura Osnes instead of Haley. And, as much as I respect Michael Feinstein as an American musical icon, I am not a Feinsteinian either. I was looking forward to a Feinstein/Reinhart performance. By the way, the center advertising does not just list Haley by name, it lists all of her albums, implying that she is a significant part of this performance.
Anyway, I don't blame Haley for this, because I don't recall seeing her ever acknowledging this date, which we just found about on this site yesterday. But, there obviously must have been some advance coordination, as I don't think Michael Feinstein would have just provided this information to the Cerritos Center without Haley's knowledge.
I haven't called the center yet, but I assume they will not be very receptive to offering me a refund. I expect them to say, "Michael Feinstein is still scheduled to appear, and supporting talent is always subject to change." I purchased trip insurance for the flight, but I don't think that "Haley isn't going to be there" is covered. Somehow, there has been a lack of coordination by someone, and fans (me) ended up getting screwed in the process.
Now if it turns out that the Asbury Park date is an error, and Haley is flying back to Cerritos to do this date, I sure would like to know this before I make any attempt to undo this mess. Somehow, I doubt this is the case however.
