I completely agree that Haley's voice is designed for jazz. But the audience for jazz is much narrower than Haley's talent deserves. She needs to reach a broader following first, so those of us anxious for the jazz CD need to be generous and patient. (The good side of her developing a larger audience, is that some of them will follow to her when she does the jazzy stuff that you, NUG, and I [and many others] want her to do.)
I totally agree with you, she needed that to create a faithfull audience in order to, you know, be able to what she does best - which is jazz. No doubt that her actual followers will love whatever she does, once they get to know her.
While I'm not certain that Haley wants to be limited to "what she does best is jazz," it does occur to me that she has already "trained" her audience to alway expect her to vary each performance of any given song that she does- to improvise a bit, if you will.
That's very interesting because, at least in my past, I know that many people have been somewhat dismayed by live performances that don't sound exactly like the recorded version they have at home.
