Some people seemed to like her too. So I figured I'd start a thread, cuz sometime during the Voice season, I had a Haley moment. (Haley moment: the recognition of "OMFG..I adore this person.
') I think it was at "Call Your Girlfriend" but it might have been "Grenade."

I didn't realize how talented she is, though. She's into the independent artist thing, and likes to write/produce/sing etc..all of her own music.
And thus, she has a lot of music already out. She was in the band My Dear Disco (later named Ella Riot), and they were a big enough band to have a few songs played on television shows (WB mostly), and played at Lollapalooza.

If people are interested, here's her bandcamp site. Which is actually an awesome site. People can download and pay what they want to contribute - meaning you could get it for free if you wanted - I wish I had known about it before downloading it all on Itunes..because the band actually gets more of the money.
http://ellariot.bandcamp.com/album/love-child
http://mydeardisco.bandcamp.com/album/dancethink-lp

My favorites are "White Lies," "It Could Be," "Amsterdam"
She also collaborated with one of the guys from Ella Riot/My Dear Disco, for an album called S/He.

http://sslashhe.bandcamp.com/album/s-he

I like "Here With You" "Mr. Hyde" and "Let Her Go"

She also goes by "The Reverb Junkie." She collaborated with another guy from her old band.

I really like "You don't Know" from this.

And here's a link to a bunch of songs that she's done herself, it's a youtube channel. Some of it is completely original, some of it is original lyrics to a remixed song. (Follow Me, It Will Rain. Seriously, that song is stunning.)

http://www.youtube.com/user/ReverbFran/videos

As I said, I love "Follow Me, It will Rain." and "Growing Away From You."

And here's her actual youtube channel
http://www.youtube.com/user/thereverbjunkie/videos

Prayer for Tears and Dusty Trail are great.

She has a few jazz covers on there that are great too. (Her voice reminded me of Gaga's at first. Which totally makes sense, seeing as both are into digital/dance pop..but have backgrounds in jazz and musical theatre. And you can hear the influences.) But she definitely has a different sound. Sort of a combo of Gaga and Ellie Goulding, but her stripped down songs are really great too. And I hope she records more of them.

In terms of what she's doing now. Usher had a recent interview, and he said she's going to visit him in Atlanta soon. (Because they're adorable.) He also said he thinks things worked out the best because now him and Michelle can "put out music together."

I'm not quite sure what she's going to do. She's hinted that she'd like to stay independent because she wants control. (and likely because she doesn't like attention.) She's also commented a lot about Macklemore, who is an Indie artist that has a distribution contract, and considering Usher's piggy back label is more of a promotional/marketing label, I can see that working out for her. But there hasn't been too much information, other than she's hoping to get her first album out by fall.

And finally, Michelle went to college with Darren Criss. (University of Michigan.) Apparently, they were pretty good friends. Half of her band went on his "Listen Up" Tour..and she performed with him when he came to Boston. It's really cute. I love his fangurling. And she totally wants to squat. (Also, he's going bald. Which is sad.)

Sorry this was a book, just a lot of info about her is out. Tongue
Here's a video of her being cute. Tongue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7jubD1RUoc

Alt. Rock radio has become very open to music influenced by EDM or New Wave as of late. Even the new Daft Punk song that features Pharrell is charting there. I think what Michelle does should fit right in there, and most of the those bands are indie too.

RE: Michelle Chamuel
Yea. It'll be interesting to see the way in which she goes. My gut says she's going to have a managing/marketing deal with Scooter/Usher, and they'll likely allow her to either be independent completely or have a distribution deal (Like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.) with a major label (Lol..Scooter/Usher's..).

Usher seems to be very invested in her, but I have a hard time believing he's going to help her to the extent he could without getting anything in return. That's just not how the industry works.

She's also either not good at the social media thing at all...or really good. She puts different information in different places. It's either because she doesn't know the best way to promote or because she only wants her more crazy fans to figure it out because legal things aren't completely settled yet. (And I have a feeling it's the second, as she alludes too it in her post.)

Anyway, she had a little facebook update.

Hey guys - hope this post finds you well. It's been a while since I wrote on Facebook and I've been wanting to say hello. I think about you often and am so glad for your visits.

Today, I spent most of the day working on a new track. Sometimes I wish I could finish a piece, put in out there immediately, and hear your feedback. But as of now, I'm still learning my craft and very much needing to take time in order to make sure the songs are right.

That said, as I lay the groundwork for the future, I am planning to release more music than the traditional industry infrastructure has been known to allow. I'm not sure how it will pan out, but sometimes you have to take risks and follow your heart/gut. The music I'm making is somewhat experimental in nature, and means a great deal to me. I'm very excited to share it.

I'll be posting some snippets from the album in the coming weeks! Wishing you all a fantastic night : )

Regardless, she's coming across as very excited. She's not trying to go the typical path of contestants, so I think it will be an interesting journey to follow, anyway.

Michelle has posted a snippet today. She likes sending her fans on a scavenger hunt. (Didn't even post it to twitter or her facebook page. Her tumblr isn't her name, either.) She might be playing "hide the music from NBC/some other legal entity."

Very Ellie Goulding/Gaga esq.

She's also in Atlanta with Usher. That took long. Haley needs an Usher.

RE: Michelle Chamuel
So part of the Michelle fandom (Chammies..Frans..) Were discussing this interview last night. It's from a little while ago (probably about 3 weeks). I wanted to post it, because it reminded me so much of that interview Haley had, where she was pretty much labeled a Diva.

Anyone who has seen a Michelle interview, knows she's a fantastic interview. She's intelligent, witty, thoughtful and very sweet. This was a perfect example of unprofessional behavior from a journalist. It's a shame that people like Michelle and Haley have to deal with this crap. Then again, it's probably important lessons for the two of them to learn. Sometimes other people have an agenda. (Michelle, quite literally has a "wait..what the fuck are you trying to do" recognition in this interview.) And the sad thing is, Michelle had interviewed with this person before..and it was actually a fantastic interview. It was just this time this person was after something. (A negative comment about Usher..)
http://www.afterellen.com/michelle-chamu...e/06/2013/

Here's a better one. (Other than clearly, she was traumatized by the hair piece they tried to put on her. Big Grin)
http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/...e-20130623

Anyway, she updated her face book recently. "Meeting of the minds" is pretty much code word for contract..but I'm not sure whether I'm reading too much into it or not. Still, I sort of expect her and Usher have something worked out. I know they are close on the show, but I really doubt that Michelle visited Usher for a week just to hang out and let him give her suggestions on her new music..

Hi Frans,
This past week I took a break from the studio and headed over to my coach's house in Atlanta. We had some good talks, ate food, checked out quality literature (including Pete the Cat), and hung out with the family/band/team. Vedo the Singer Fan Page and I were at Usher's show on Friday - which was truly inspiring to both of us. The show was phenomenal and every person we met was working so hard and killing it!

In addition to all the things listed above - Usher and his kick-butt manager, Grace, made time to listen to the music I've been working on. It was great to get their feedback and feel their support. It makes me even more excited to release this album!

"When do we get to hear this music?" you ask. Well, I've decided to release it in September. There's a lot of work to finish before then, but that's the plan! The album has 10 tracks and is currently in mastering. More snippets to come...

Now, to sum it up, I'm really glad I got to visit Coach and catch up. it was a great way to have a meeting of the minds after the whirlwind Voice finale. I've figured some things out and am looking forward to the future. Even more importantly though, I'm enjoying today. Hope you are too
: )

Till next time,
MC

And finally..here's another snipped. (It's absolutely beautiful.)

RE: Michelle Chamuel
She posted another update on facebook.

Hello there! On September 10, 2013 - I will be releasing my first entirely self-produced album as The Reverb Junkie, (my solo electronic project). This album is quite different from anything I've done before. Every sound came through my mind. All voices you hear come from me. All the notes were played by me (though some birds outside and floor creaking make a cameo - if you listen closely).

For this album, I wrote and recorded full songs, then went back and selected my favorite parts - significant words/notes/syllables/etc - and left only those parts. I got to use my voice as an instrument and play with the different sounds it can make. I wrote melodies on bass, piano, strings, synthesizer, guitar, organ, and glockenspiel. I acted like my own choir. I programmed drums to get you to nod your head where the music makes me feel like nodding my head. I kept writing and re-arranging, adding and taking away, until it sounded just how I wanted it to.

This album is called "All I Want." It's what I've wanted to make for a long time now. I'm so excited to be able to share it with you.

Really impressive, IMO, what she's doing with this.

A lot of fans have been speculating that she'll be doing her more..alternative/electronic projects as The Reverb Junkie, and more mainstream stuff as Michelle Chamuel. She has also mentioned she's planning on releasing more music than what the Industry generally recommends.

I am personally interested in when/where Usher becomes involved. (He seemed intent on becoming involved before she went to visit him, and I don't see her rejecting the help..)

Her career path will be interesting to watch, IMO.

There are a few more snippets on her tumblr page, too.

RE: Michelle Chamuel
Michelle released her album today. It's available on itunes (As the Reverb Junkie. "The Reverb Junkie" is her electronic project.)

You can also buy it (and listen to it) on her bandcamp site. http://thereverbjunkie.bandcamp.com/album/all-i-want

I'm not the biggest fan of electronic music. I like some of it. (I think my first real exposure to it was Britney's "Mannequin.") But I really like it. It definitely sounds like a movie sound track.

She did everything herself too. (There's even video of her packaging the CD..and dancing to Katy Perry's "Roar.") Artwork and every sound. I like the "organic" feel to music. And in a sense, this album feels this way.

My personal favorite is "Selfish."
Her single is "All I want" and I think it's one of the better songs on the album.
A lot of fans seem to really like "Worth" too.

So anyway, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this album. But I really like it. This is a very different side of Michelle from what we've seen on the show, though.

RE: Michelle Chamuel
Michelle gave this talk/interview about creativity for a charity organization. (The Organization is really cool, it's called "Voices From Inside" and it provides a creativity outlet as well as a rehabilitation technique for incarcerated women.)

Anyway, I dragged one of my best friends to go with me. Michelle is adorable. (And likely smaller than Haley. Yes, that little.) She didn't talk much about the show or really her musical plans for the future. (other than "The reverb junkie" is her "electronic side project" and she's now making more music for fans of hers on The Voice.) She also said that the word the glam squad used to describe her was "difficult." Big Grin

Mostly she discussed why she's taking the musical career path she is taking. (She likes the technology aspect of it) and showed some of her tech toys, and what they do. (Harmonizer, reverb, delay, pitch change..etc..)

RE: Michelle Chamuel
So, another Michelle update. Tongue

She may have been featured as a vocalist on a song one of her best friends/ex bandmates remixed. I haven't heard it yet (it could be an old one.) But that was quite possibly released today.

Her own single, which is going to be more pop/lyric based than her "Reverb Junkie/electronic experimental stuff" comes out November 19th. (Titled "Go Down Singing.) She released a snippet of the strings. It's gorgeous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWcLPUwqc6Q

I also recently had the opportunity to meet her/talk with her. She gave a Tedx talk (centering around a sense of place.) And afterwords, people were able to chat with the speakers. Michelle is an absolute sweetheart, who spent a majority of the time asking each of us questions about our lives. (She's honestly the cutest little thing..) And seemed genuinely interested. Another woman and I had told her that she helped us through the bar exam/PHD dissertation. Michelle refused to take any sort of credit. (Although she thought it was cool how people can interact in that way...) And when I told her she was currently dominating my ipod because of the amount of music she had out. She seemed a little embarrassed and said she'd be releasing about 100 more songs. Extremely intelligent, sweet, and humble human being.

Her talk itself was interesting. Both in the information she shared about her personal life, and about music/song structure. (Explaining why a song gets stuck in your head.)

Before listening. I will warn you, she sings a bit of "Call Me Maybe" If you are anything like me, that means a month later the song is still stuck in your head. (Now I know why!)

That being said, hearing her sing live makes me appreciate her a lot more. I really liked her voice on The Voice. And loved it in her studios. However, Michelle's passion/ability to emote and perform was always, to me, her strong suit. I figured she was a better singer live than wht was heard through the television because of the audiences reactions to her, (and just certain things she did. For instance she plays with dynamics a lot. In person, it makes the listener..listen closely. When singing with The Voice's bandzilla, it makes your voice sound weak.) and the reviews she would get when she played in her band. But she really has a lot of warmth to her voice. And her tone is sweet but there's a slight rasp. Really really great live. ("warm" really is the best word I can use to describe it.)

Hi Mercfan, glad that you had the opportunity to hear and meet Michelle. Those TED speeches are really something, aren't they? I haven't been able to attend one in person, but even watching them online has been remarkable.

BTW, which one are you: the one studying for the bar exam or working on your dissertation?
