RE: Christina Grimmie fatally shot after concert
This is very upsetting news from many aspects. I think I need to focus on the main reason right now which is, she did not need to die, and I wanted her to live, be happy and make music. Christina, I am so sorry.

He apparently was armed with two guns in a hunting knife. (21 year old white male.) And it was clearly targeted (he shot her in the head.)

I am just so saddened, shocked, disgusted..and feel so badly for her fans, family, and friends.

And, according to CNN, he was not from Orlando, but traveled to get there.

It is senseless and sad, perhaps tragic. Usually, I try to avoid those extreme and, these days. overused hyperbolic terms, but here was a young woman with so much life ahead of her, to be ended for what? I won't be surprised, if/when, in the days to come, we learn that her attacker had either diagnosed or undiagnosed mental issues.

Much sympathy to her family and those closest to her, particularly her brother, who may relive this nightmare for years to come.

Hits way too close to home.... On Twitter last night/this morning, to see it 'slowly' develop as reports come in, your mind, at least mine, kept 'hoping' for 'the best', but with each report the news seemed to skirt the issue until the 'best' you can hope for is survival....

I was raised religous and some of those teachings are a part of me, despite my railings against the institution and injustices of things that happen in life that make it hard to believe in a 'just' god....

That being said, I get a certain comfort that she appears to have been strong in her faith and wanting to uplift people....her family are showing strength upheld by that belief, that although tragic, their loved one lives on.... It is times like these that I hope people like Christina are rewarded in their faith and that her family do find peace in that.

RIP Christina.... I really hope you are right...

Lord have mercy on Christina Grimmie and her family. May her memory be eternal and may her family be comforted in the hope of the resurrection. In the Name of + the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good points, Tusk. Having watched my best friend from high school, also a person of faith, go through years of nightmares after witnessing an accident that ultimately led to her father's death (which she saw as her fault although it wasn't), I recognize other things. What people say at a point like this, and what happens later are often 180 degrees apart.

But if Christina's family can lock onto their belief and faith that she's in a good and safe place, and find comfort from it, well then, good for them. I just suspect her brother isn't going to be able to do that for long. (EDIT) Or rather, he may be able to find comfort in where they all hope she's at, but that won't take away the lingering images of the night she was killed.

In my opinion, one should call it what it is, murder.

And even if it should have been a mentally disturbed person, it is a cultural thing that the thought of such someone wanders to killing, rather than on to something else.

The only little consolence is that she died doing what she lived for, being there for her fans. It's the last thing she did, and it says it all.

XAtlantic, how does Germany deal with: a.) the mentally disturbed to begin with; and b.) situations where the mentally disturbed commit crimes?*

* Recognizing that we don't yet know specifics in Christina Grimmie's killing.

RE: Christina Grimmie fatally shot after concert
I feel that we let a certain segment of the population have a "mental health" excuse when they commit heinous crimes. There really aren't too many actual mental health issues that would cause someone to do that. Of course if he is really sick, that's one thing..but odds are it's just another example of a tragic shooting in America, where we use mental health as an excuse to not talk about other elements of the crime. (That go beyond gun control, IMO. But are still things Americans don't want to talk about.)

Personally, I also think it's up in the air about whether he was just after Christina or not, given his weapons and his plan to return back, it's quite possible, and even likely, that Christina's brother saved lives by tackling the man to the ground.

The name of Christina's murderer has been released... Kevin James Loibl. He was 27 and going prematurely bald.
