Ricky.org: Haley Reinhart and Postmodern Jukebox Deliver Stunning ‘Black Hole Sun’ Cover (VIDEO)

Quote:Haley Reinhart is one of the most popular singers Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox has ever worked with, and with their latest video, it’s easy to see why. In an absolutely stunning cover of “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden, Haley delivers what might be her most hauntingly beautiful vocal since “Creep”.

This is just such a rich vocal. I adore the way she finesses every note, and how she enunciates each and every word. And in the final stretch of the song, she just imbues this with so much passion that you could be forgiven for thinking this was her song. I seriously can’t go over how much I love this. PMJ seriously just made my Thursday with this cover.

Quote:Yes it’s here–a brand new Postmodern Jukebox video featuring Haley Reinhart. The singer took time out of her busy tour schedule to once again turn a modern song into a vintage classic.

In PMJ’s latest video, the talented musicians join forces with the American Idol season 10 singer for a lush, orchestral version of the 90’s grunge classic, Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”

The gorgeous arrangement showcases Haley’s impressive dynamic range and exquisite phrasing. Additionally, the partnership comes full circle. The singer’s first collaborated with PMJ on another 90’s favorite, Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Fans can catch both Haley and Postmodern Jukebox on tour this summer. Check out Haley’s dates HERE and PMJ’s dates HERE. And while you’re at it: Grab “Blackhole Sun” at iTunes.

Another nice thing about this video is that it was recorded in a <gasp> studio. Looks classy and the audio is excellent.

Quote:"Black Hole Sun" was written by frontman Chris Cornell. Cornell said that he wrote the song in about 15 minutes....

Regarding "Black Hole Sun", Cornell stated, "It's just sort of a surreal dreamscape, a weird, play-with-the-title kind of song."[5] He also said that "lyrically it's probably the closest to me just playing with words for words' sake, of anything I've written. I guess it worked for a lot of people who heard it, but I have no idea how you'd begin to take that one literally."[6] In another interview he elaborated further, stating, "It's funny because hits are usually sort of congruent, sort of an identifiable lyric idea, and that song pretty much had none. The chorus lyric is kind of beautiful and easy to remember. Other than that, I sure didn't have an understanding of it after I wrote it. I was just sucked in by the music and I was painting a picture with the lyrics. There was no real idea to get across."[7] Commenting upon how the song was misinterpreted as being positive, Cornell said, "No one seems to get this, but 'Black Hole Sun' is sad. But because the melody is really pretty, everyone thinks it's almost chipper, which is ridiculous."[8] When asked about the line, "Times are gone for honest men", Cornell said:
It's really difficult for a person to create their own life and their own freedom. It's going to become more and more difficult, and it's going to create more and more disillusioned people who become dishonest and angry and are willing to fuck the next guy to get what they want. There's so much stepping on the backs of other people in our profession. We've been so lucky that we've never had to do that. Part of it was because of our own tenacity, and part of it was because we were lucky.[9]

Quote:Lyrics

In my eyes, indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
'Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I'll hear you scream again

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (won't you come)

Stuttering, cold and damp
Steal the warm wind tired friend
Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes
In my shoes, a walking sleep
And my youth I pray to keep
Heaven sent hell away
No one sings like you anymore

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)

Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)

Hang my head, drown my fear
Till you all just disappear

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come
Won't you come

These are my two favorites now too!!

When I first heard this song from a YouTube clip, I was just mesmerized and got goosebumps. I hadn't felt like that since she first sang House of the Rising Sun.

I get really disturbed by the marriage comments. It's one thing to have a celebrity crush, but the marriage comments are another thing. Apparently the person that shot Christina thought they were going to get married as well. Kind of just reinforces that for me.

Anyone else feel this way?
