RE: Fall Tour Dates
My favorite simplistic moment from Lincoln Hall in Chicago was during the VIP soundcheck of this beautifully harmonized classic Beatles song that Harry & Haley Reinhart sung so flawlessly:

I only posted a couple songs from my shooting location in the balcony because the disappointing Stage Lighting scheme made the videos I shot much poorer than I had hoped because the lighting controller never really highlighted Haley face...it was all from behind or directly above making my preferred show the one in Minneapolis.
Although having Haley's Family & Friends in Chicago did make the experience that much more fulfilling being able to relate to all of them, plus having a chair at the railing was great relief after standing for 5 hours in Minneapolis the night before.
This is an example of the horrible Chicago Lighting. I guess the intent was to try and add extra drama but it didn't work for me:

RE: Fall Tour Dates
I wrote a longer post....but deleted it cause....you know Rolleyes

Anyways, the shorter version, most of these venues don't have two control stations, I could be wrong, but I think lighting and audio are overseen from the same spot.

All 3 of Haley's tour managers I met on Better & WTS tours were at what I know to be the sound board during the shows. It's possible the lighting was controlled by Haley's engineers while overseeing the audio as well (they know the songs and the set list, when, where, what to hightlight), limited by whatever lighting system the venue has set up. Overall, the lighting during WTS was darker, in general, than the lighting during Better tour.

The times I know the lighting was controlled by the venue was at Durty Nellies and BGDays, non 'tour' shows.

I'm just saying, unless someone knows for sure Haley uses the venue's lighting engineers during her tour, it's possible that she brought her own people to control how she sounds as well as the lighting on stage, as well as it being cheaper (probably a charge to use the venue's engineer) & you have more control of your presentation.... ? The darker, more moody ambiance might be what Haley asked them to do.... White Rabbit for instance, a lot of the time, Haley is bathed in intense bright lights of red, green and blue.....

RE: Fall Tour Dates
In Lincoln Hall I sat directly above the lighting console guy and the soundboard guy and I often watched the two of them controlling each function separately. Harry Reinhart also complained about the Lighting and he wouldn't have done that if it was someone from Haley's team. But it was probably more the venue's positioning of the lights than anyone controlling them. I was so annoyed I left this note after the show on the lighting controls:

Whoever ran the lighting in Haley's Minneapolis show did an excellent job.

RE: Fall Tour Dates
I'll take your word for it, but as far as 'extra people' as far as I could tell, Haley's tour manager ran the boards on all 3 tours, and there was another guy, can't remember his name, hispanic, maybe a friend of Haley's, he did alot of the stage set up, including equipment, and lastly, a merch person, Angie in Europe and two different people during the WTS tour, one was a friend of Ray's, the 2nd half they used another person I hadn't met, Hannah?.... I didn't see any 'extra' unless they were guests at the shows I attended...here's a snapshot of the basic group that toured

The guy on the left was the tour manager, the guy on the right w/ the beard was one of her engineers that also worked both Better Tours and WTS. As far as I could tell, Haley had those two as engineers....they may have had one or two 'roadies' to help w/ equipment

RE: Fall Tour Dates
The Lighting for "Sunny Afternoon" from Chicago's Lincoln Hall was not so bad after I enhanced the brightness & saturation. So I take back some of my negativity.

RE: Fall Tour Dates
Turns out my observations were correct. I DMd Dylan the question of who does their lighting?

“Hi Dylan, a question came up I hoped you can answer. During WTS tour, did you guys bring your own engineer to coordinate stage lighting for the shows, or did you use the venue's on site engineer? Thanks”

Dylan:
“Our sound engineer also did some of the lights for most shows.”

I would guess one of the venues they didn’t do the lighting was in Atlanta as they had complex lighting patterns and filters as witnessed by Emily Butler’s photographs

One thing you could do that might also help is see if you can bump up the sharpness a bit. Your video is High Definitioin so you might be able to increase it a bit to help the resolution. Be careful not to go overboard, sharpen it too much. Play around w/ the how much you want to sharpen it to get a good balance. Try 20% and work it up from there, understanding that Youtube compression will also affect the look online, so upload a few trials to see if you like the result

RE: Fall Tour Dates
If Haley's face was directly lit and I wasn't at full 20x zoom in low light, the sharpness might have already been about as good as it gets. The microphone is much sharper than Haley's face. It might lose it's softness if I start playin' with it but thanks for the suggestion, I don't use extra tools, just Youtube's built-in editor. At least the sound is balanced but unfortunately the balcony had a bar behind me and you hear the background chatter more there than you do on the main floor by the stage.

RE: Fall Tour Dates
I was thinking the smoke might also distort in this situation, just a suggestion because cameras take such huge files nowadays that you do have some flexibility to enhance it, but only if it's an improvement. Your audio is much improved
