The Eagles
Henley and Frey.
These guys were the 'American' Beatles to me.
Fort Huachuca, Arizona was where our family first lived.
It was dry and hot and dusty. But the memories I hold close of my heart, were of the beautiful girls with their sunkissed tans and the warm, wonderful Arizona night skies that were overflowing with stars.
This was the backdrop to my first introduction to the Eagles, as my uncle would slip in the 8 track as he took me for rides in the desert in his avocado green Duster
So indulge me as I post some songs, some you know, some you may have missed, but most were great companions for me through my trials and tribulations of life. (In no particular order...feel free to add on )
(Many Eagles performances were removed from youtube, so hopefully I can still find good ones, if not just the audio)
After the Thrill is Gone
Best lines in the song:
"Time passes and you must move on...half the distance takes you twice as long, so you keep on singing for the sake of the song, after the thrilll is gone
You're afraid you might fall out of passion, and your feeling cold and small. Any kind of love without passion, ain't no kind of lovin' at all..."

7 Bridges Road
One of These Nights
"I've been searchin' for the daughter of the devil himself, I've been searchin' for an angel in white, i've been waitin' for a woman who's a little of both, and I can feel her but she's nowhere in sight..."
Story of my life LOL
Tequila Sunrise
"Take another shot of courage, wonderin' why the right words never come, you just get numb...."
Witchy Woman
"Raven hair and movie lips, sparks fly from her finger tips.... "

RE: The Eagles
^ From the movie "The Big Lebowski"...
Quote:The Dude: Jesus, man, can you change the station?
Cab Driver: Fuck you man! You don't like my fucking music, get your own fucking cab!
The Dude: I've had a...
Cab Driver: I pull over and kick your ass out, man!
The Dude: - had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles, man
...now every time someone mentions The Eagles, I get a visual of The Dude (Jeff Bridges) getting thrown out of the cab by an African American Cab driver that likes The Eagles.
The Dude likes Credence Clearwater Revival...

I don't believe I'd heard either of the first two. The acapella sections of Seven Bridges Road were particularly enjoyable! Thanks for sharing.
Thx MAE, my intent was to post lesser known Eagles because they have some that have been played a ton over the years like "Desperado" and "Hotel California", that some hate them. (they will be posted tho)
Remember our past discussion on "Memory Markers"?...that's what the Eagles were for me, of my first years in the States, my first taste of America. They represent a gentler, simpler time of my childhood.
There is a local sports talk DJ who always refers to The Big Lebowski's dislike of the Eagles (see Buzz' post). I figure it's because they were so over played. Because they are excellent vocalists, musicians and writers. Once I started listening to them, I couldn't resist but post a couple familiar songs.
Joe Walsh takes over the vocals for this beautiful song
Pretty Maids In All In A Row
I Wish You Peace
Journey of the Sorcerer (Theme to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
A Banjo lead Instrumental
Randy Meisner is lead vocal on this Eagles classic
Take It To The Limit

I do remember the "memory markers" discussion, which reminds me that I have to "remember" to share that with a co-worker of mine. (He's the one with whom I started the list of "truisms" to attribute to music (in the large), i.e. the universal language, lifetime need, etc. I'm pretty sure he'd get that instant "oh, yeah, that's right" as well.) You have this extraordinary way of bringing things "full circle." It's so remarkable that you have such clear/vivd memories of your associations to the songs that youbring to our attention.
"I Wish You Peace" was another song I hadn't heard. It's wonderful! Except for the harmonies and obvious vocal recognition, the song, instrumentation and overall arrangement is a complete, but lovely departure from the "typical" Eagles songs and sound (or, at least, to me it is).
Is it the band's fault that certain songs were overplayed? It makes so much sense to hold that against the performer/s. That's as intelligent as accusing those musicians (in areas that are more of an esoteric genre-- specifically I'm thinking of classical and jazz), who've managed to record something that (surprise, surprise) has relatively good sales, as "selling out."
And then, Tusk, you complete another loop (another "full circle" ) by including the "Journey of Sorcerer," which you had initially mentioned in another thread (something about Douglas Adams HGTTG series).
I do hope that those full circles don't mean that either thread has seen it's end.

RE: The Eagles
Technically not an Eagles song, but performed by the Eagles. So I'm gonna stretch it maybe for their solo stuff too.
Boys of Summer was a pretty big hit for Mr. Don Henley
Not sure who the lead guitarist is (not Joe Walsh) in that vid, but THE Eagles, to me, has Don Felder on lead guitar. He has a soul, an essence to his sound.
Live performance of "Lyin' Eyes' and "One of These Nights" with Don Felder. His Solo in One of These Nights, demonstrates the texture and emotion of his style that can't be replicated by lesser, more technical players.
And Hotel California is not Hotel California without Felder dueling with Joe Walsh at the end...
(This is their Hall of Fame induction, they brought back original members Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner as well as Felder for this performance)

MAE, with absolutely gorgeous writing style and skills; T-Man with his beautiful intellect; The Eagles, with the most talent in a single rock band EVER; Thank you all for a most delightful morning!
This thread is so tight, I almost hate to touch it; BUT, you know me, can't leave well enough alone, have to roll this tiny circle across the stage just for fun

RE: The Eagles
I grew up on the Eagles. They were my mother's favorite group, and became mine as well. Must have played their two Greatest Hits LP's 10k times over the years. Little known fact: The Eagles origins were actually as Linda Ronstadt's band from 1970-71 before breaking out on their own in 1972. Afterward, they still remained very close and played together several times. Arguably, they became the two biggest acts in popular music by the mid 70's.
I don't normally like covers of Eagles songs, but this one by Linda is an absolute gem. I adore her voice, and in her day she was the hottest babe in the biz. In fact, my earliest lustings for a hot female vocalist dates back to Linda when I was a tween in the late 70's. So, from Linda to Haley that makes almost 35 years of being a salivating dog! Anyway, hope you likey.
