When he was at this height in the seventies, I only got glimpses of him when he was on Saturday Night Live. His "Words you can't say on TV" bit...(which of course there's no point posting as someone will be offended ), was one of the first 'bits' I remember from him.
"Words you can't say..." Classic Carlson!

RE: SUPER STAR OR SUPER HAPPY

Here is one of Michael's AGT performances. I picked this one because I love this song, sorry about the AGT intro..
I forgot to mention Sweet C how much I enjoyed the "Let's Get Together" cover of Al Green's classic song performed by Michael Grimm in the video...great cover. I didn't watch AGT, but have since discovered Jackie Evancho. For Michael to have won over her speaks to his incredible talent. Here is one of my favorite performances "To Believe" by the girl with the heavenly voice (the original multimillion viewed video was taken down):
The dysfunctional home life experienced by Michael with parents that neglected him and his sister explains a lot about his formative years. Picturing him running after his grandmother's car when she would bring him back to his mother and the trailer from hell is heartbreaking.
Contrast this with Haley, who continues to point out what great parents she has and the happy home she was raised in. What a gift to a child to provide a secure, loving home and the resulting confidence it builds within them.
For Michael Grimm I can't help but think when he was thrust into fame he didn't have that confident foundation to call upon. It seems he needed to withdraw into a safe corner, where he could find comfort in the midst of chaos. Yet, it is where he wants to be and that is fine. He fulfilled a dream of providing for his loving grandparents and continues to make music that is true to himself...forsaking super star status in favor of personal satisfaction.
I found this comment on Michael's audition video of AGT:
Quote:Actually, you made a great point that I meant to include: Michael's versatility! He can sing so many different genres of music: blues, rock, country, pop, reggae, etc., and sound absolutely AWESOME and AUTHENTIC in all of them!
...sound like someone we know? Also, the judges comments on his soulful voice...has a little gravel/growl to his voice...
