Phillip Phillips vs his family?

TMZ has reported that Phillip Phillips is ignoring his family who are suffering from financial difficulties. Original story is quoted below. TMZ asked him about this situation after he landed at LAX http://www.tmz.com/2012/11/06/phillip-ph...hop-video/ He did not answer the question directly but said he loved his family and was just back from visiting them. But he did not deny the accusation. Such an odd story as he appears to be such a good guy. But, I am guessing there is more to the story as family issues usually are complicated...

"Phillip Phillips' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

We don't know anything about the situation and while I understand that he is a public figure that will have this sort of private dirt aired, I really do wish they'd chose their words in such away that presumed there was a legitimate reason that Phillp is keepinig private.

To brainstorm reasons why he wouldn't say anything or refrain (at least openly) from stepping in:
-substance abuse issues? rule 1 is not to give cash to someone spinning out of control (of course if this were the case he would not make it public)
- family attempts to entangle him financially as a party to their debts - or some sort of nuance to the law in his state in terms of being responsible if you start to pay something. Obviously you wouldn't talk about your plan publically
- legitimate concern over the approach the family is taking to right their financial future and a belief that they need to cut their losses and restart instead of continuing to flounder in a way that led to their current problem.

Anyway.. like I said .. pretty bad to report on "we are told" him not doing anything and suggesting that if he didn't return their calls he was being dodgy about the whole situation.

I don't follow Phillip, but from posts on mjs alot of what has been reported for this is inaccurate.

-The family was already planning to sell the business well before Phillips won the contest

since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

-Like Haley, Phillips' parents were helped with travel to see him by their community. They did not have to spend 'a ton' of money on it...and if they blew their wad on travelling just to see him, then that's on them and they're not very smart with their money (which I doubt is the case). I doubt his parents are that short sighted to think they can retire and live off his 'winnings'

-As we know from Haley, Phillip probably has to spend whatever they have advanced him on his shows or travel or whatever. Last on his list to spend his advance on are hangers on, or those who know him and think they deserve something for knowing him...

-It doesn't end after he is crowned and sings his coronation song. The iron is hot and he has to act now. He seems pretty intelligent and probably understands the work he puts into his career now will go a long way towards making a more successful career for himself in the future. The last thing he needs is 'dead beat' relatives and acquatences (which I'm not calling his family, but that's what TMZ is portraying the situation to be)

-Let's not forget about his medical condition that probably requires some maintaining. It's not known if his medical procedure during AI was covered by Idol, but I have to imagine that this is a condition he has been and will be costing him financially.

-More than likely, the 'family source' is a disgruntled or fame seeking parasite who TMZ seems to attract. If this situation were anywhere near as 'bad' as TMZ implies, there would be many more 'sources' with this info, including people who have no interest in Phillips' finacial windfall.

^^^T-Man, I suspect your assessment is quite accurate While "his music" is definitely not my cup of tea (which, I believe, is fairly well know on this board), he seems like a genuinely nice kid, so I don't buy the TMZ "story."

that makes sense because i've been assuming that this story may have been leaked by possibly a disgruntled relative.
