Haley reportedly splits with Interscope

I don't know anything about this music industry, but still, I felt that after Free settled where it did, they totally quit promoting her. I thought Free came out at a lousey time and it seemed to me that after that crappy birdcage thing on AI, that things started downhill from the Interscope end of things right then.
I'm quietly hopeful that there could be something in her near future, just simply based on who she is and how respected she's appearing to be amongst those who have connected with her in her early attempts to break out.

I think Interscope actually has held her back and now hopefully someone that will work for her interests will really enable her to succeed. So, I'm taking this news as a positive for her actually. She's especially unique, beautiful, smart, talented beyond comprehension and matured beyond her years.. So I know that she's going to be very successful.. Hell she's still only what 22? Keep the faith Haliens!

Sometimes you have to do some pruning, get rid of the things, tangling and complicating things, to allow for growth. Interscope and AI gave her exposure and allowed her to meet industry professionals who, from most reports, are almost all OTT impressed with her. We can at least be thankful for that that part of the relationship.

That part of her career might be over, now without the slow moving/acting behemoth to tell her where to go, her career becomes sleeker and more able to adapt and she can be captain of her own career and allow her talent to touch more people and determine it's own path.

My hope and support for her remains unwavering.

But, I want more for Haley. People have been suggesting indie labels. I'm just concerned that indie labels might think themselves above an Idol contestant, and I'm not that audience would be receptive.

James, Casey and many others are on indie labels so they're not above signing Idols.

As for audience, James managed to make significant inroads into arguably the most anti Idol market - hard rock/heavy metal. Casey regularly performs for hipster crowds. It's all about the music in the end.

Change is often for the best. Haley and her career will be just fine. Interscope didn't seem to be making much of an effort to get her touring with someone. All of the Music People that have met and heard Haley love her and her talents. Still bummed for Haley though.

I've seen the writing on the wall emerging. Frustration of getting a too small allowance to self-promote from the big-dawgs, no fall tour financed by Interscope, disagreement over the next single, and a comment she made to Kaypea about not knowing what was next. The fact that she's been back in the studio is a good sign and I think I actually feel better that this happened instead of feeling bummed. I hope it means we get to see her perform more often here in her hometown environment and that a new label that could thrive on making her their biggest meal ticket or even better if she takes control of everything and cut out the middle men. I'm sure she has a network in place with her ties to the industry thru her parents and thru the fabulous contacts she has made over the past 18 months.
I feel good and can't wait to see her smile and wave and maybe sing in the Thanksgiving day Parade!!

Id love to know the interpretation of why she was cut loose from Interscope, their version would be will she did not make us enough money poor record sales ect ect, but when that all fall under the category of promotion? So now she's has been cut loose Is she free financially? Or is Interscope going to tell her that we spent this much money on you and you only brought in this much money for us so now you owe us thousands and thousands of dollars. One more question is what about the rights to her songs. Usually when a label signed to they own the rights to all the songs for a period of time. So where does that fall. When the artist and the label part company who owns the rights to the songs? Lots of questions but then there's always her publishing company. It's a complicated split but I'm sure she was informed of all of this before she signed on the dotted line. I just hope that she's not in a lot of debt with Interscope. So now one more question will she moved back to Chicago or stay in LA. Don't worry Hales we still love you.
