RE: 5-26-13 -- Sunday Night Jazz at W Hotel Hollywood

You are right, but here is another thing. One of these days Haley is going to have go on the road and have people show up and PAY to see her. Right now, I believe she has not been a headliner where people pay to see JUST her (or maybe on a handful of occasions--the HOB in Chicago maybe). She has done festivals, and malls, and bars, and Vegas, and this and that.
This next CD release to me is critical, and how she handles it. As noted, she needs to sign with a label that fully supports her and promotes her, but she also needs to get on the road and tour and tour and tour, hopefully with a kick-ass band.
Or maybe she does not want that life--maybe she wants to be writer, or maybe just a Hollywood/LA red carpet gal/socialite who just does things here and there. I am not sure. I do know if she wants to really have a long term music career, she needs to start thinking about whatever it takes that will get people to drive to a club/venue and pay to see her.
Sorry I got off on a rant on this, but...
It is what it is...and your opinion is really valid RMD.
I've really enjoyed watching "Live From Daryl's House"...and the thing that gets me is the organic, tightly produced music with real musicians and real vocals. It is excellent music. This writer sums up the Daryl Hall phenomenon, now that he is in his 60s:
http://variety.com/2013/music/news/daryl...200481169/
Quote:And one thing that’s staggering is it’s not on hard drive. They’re really playing. Remember when kids took lessons in school, practiced, studied? Now everything is instant, if you’re not famous on your first track, cut moments after you picked up your instrument, you figure someone else is to blame.
But Hall & Oates have got a big troupe. They’ve got a full sound. And that’s all a result of those damn hits. Like “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My List,”
“Private Eyes” …
They go on and on.
...And the successful never stop working.
Those hits didn’t come by accident. Daryl Hall dedicated enough time to get there. Do you?
Daryl brings in guest vocalists on every show, and they sing from his songbook, with some of their songs too. The thing is, they all sound great because they are hits. Haley needs to keep working, keep writing, keep singing...but most of all she needs some hits.
As Tony Bennet told her at the Idol Finale..."you've got to keep on singing, no matter what."

Sorry I got off on a rant on this, but... I think alot of fans feel your frustration, but we need to remember that it's been only a year since "Free" and LU, she is in the infancy of her career in the industry. It's possible she thirsts to learn more about the industry before she makes her next commitment to a label.
At this time, I think she is taking advantage of the opportunities that she finds has opened up to her. Ole appears to have made a significant move in helping her grow her career by allowing to participate in "Industry" related activities like in Greece.
It's been said that she really only got into Jazz when she went to High School, and has pretty much stayed that course since. Jazz piqued her interest and she's been seeing what she can do with it since. I think the same thing is true in this part of her career. Ole might have approached her and said, since you got some time, there's this thing you might be interested in Greece. So the opportunity was there to deepen her experience in song writing.
It's possible that she is, ATM, absorbing all she can about the business to prepare herself for the next step, After Interscope, so that she has even more control of her path. (even if she seems to follow a muse only she sees or understands )
H4 Just posted an Ole Article about Haley which pretty much says as much...
Quote:
“This team really gets their artists. They are so invested in me and I'm very thankful to be a part of such a passionate, hard working and fun loving company! This past trip to Greece really was life changing.
... As far as her approach to writing these days, she says she likes to keep an open mind. ...I think it's only right to explore each creative experience to the fullest. I don't believe in boxing myself into any one genre. Coming from a very diverse musical background, I try not to premeditate my direction too much because I know the soul remains the same!
Reinhart is looking to the future with a great deal of enthusiasm. “It's a new and exciting chapter for me. I'm diving into my next project: new album, new branding, and potentially a new label... whatever feels right. So, keep a look out!”
Haley is so much more than a vocalist that you roll out to perform someone else's song....Her voice and attitude got us to hooked, I don't think any of us could have anticipated how much more she has to offer. Girl dreams BIG
Quote:Opportunities multiply as they are seized.- Sun Tsu
* I think this is where Haley is now, and she's wisely taking advantage of the opportunities she's opened for herself.
She is extremely confident and has said she doesn't live in the past/looks forward, I think she knows that success is in her future if she follows her passion. Her parents have taught her what 'success' is (ie raising a happy, loving, talented family), so she has a firm grounding as her launching pad.
Right now, it's about learning as much as she can about the career she will have for the rest of her life (I think Haley has taken Tony Bennett's advice with her about always learning)
