Preview: Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra

...The all-star concert features a formidable array of NOLA heavy musical hitters, including the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (who themselves have been fighting the good fight since the early 60s) and the man who perhaps personifies New Orleans music more than any other, Allen Toussaint. Adding additional vocal fireworks are two artists with strong Chicago connections; the dynamic Kurt Elling and American Idol contestant (don’t hold that against her, though; she’s got some serious vocal chops) Haley Reinhart.

One of the main factors of my decision was the time....the concert ends at 11:30 so I wouldnt be getting home until 1:30 (12:40am train), and I have to get up at 5:30 for work so I'd be getting 2-3 hours of sleep.

I love that photo! It brings back fond memories of my own playing days. The boys do look a bit bundled up. Chicago is colder than they're used in NOLA.

I also enjoyed the interview article (albeit the "train arrival" seemed fairly contrived). I love Mayfield's positive outlook/attitude. That would seem like another reason that he and Haley connect.
