RE: Brrr....
It was 80 degrees in Dallas on Saturday.
It was in the twenties most of Sunday with "thunder sleet" and predicted low with windchill of 5-10 degrees below zero.
Parts of the freeway between Houston and Dallas iced over, making it impossible for 18-wheelers to get up a grade. News reports said traffic came to a standstill and was backed up for 15-40 miles.
edit: This report says 65 miles:
Quote:Icy roads were first reported late Sunday, causing gridlock from Dallas to Fairfield -- about a 65-mile stretch of the interstate, according to traffic data from Google Maps.

Thank you, Tusk!! I've been attempting to change the language (from "global warming" to "climate change") and I appreciate the assist! As I've mentioned before, approximately once a year I get to hear presentations from researchers studying what's happening with the glacial melts from both caps -- and each year, the results of their most recent tests/research are more sobering (warming seas contributing to rapid melt which contributes to rising seas).
However, in December in this thread, I posted a link to an article regarding predictions of the winters of 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 ( http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-ne...ld-m/36990). It came out in 2010. Nary a mention of either "global warming" or "climate change" but the meteorologist seemed to recognize patterns fairly well, and -- well thus far, he seems to have been fairly accurate.
Sir Buzz, I do feel for you -- I truly do. On the other hand, living in Minnesota is a choice

RE: Brrr....
Hey, don't feel sorry for Buzz...I love it here in Minnesota. Soon I will be heading up north for some ice fishing, as it warms up into the 20s & 30s. I'm still hoping that I will be able to ice fish in early May...cross that off my bucket list (could have done it last year, but didn't get up north). What are the odds it could happen 2 years in a row?
I might go with a few friends...
I really love the climate change theorists because now they have incorporated the concept of colder weather as being part of the global warming theory. So whatever happens, now they will be able to say, "see, we told you so!"
If you want to save the planet, assuming mankind can overcome natural forces, then the priority should be to control emissions in underdeveloped nations along with the heavy polluters like China and India. Pollution control is a luxury of developed/wealthy nations.
When I was in India for 6 weeks in 1995, there was a terrible haze over every city. Most vehicles at that time ran on diesel and there was absolutely no pollution control on any vehicle I saw. Hopefully things have changed somewhat in the past 20 years, but they weren't going to be able to clean up their environment for a long time.
Anytime, Yanni & Himm, on the "HALEY" rematch...and we should do one on the ice too...Buzz already has ice grippers for his boots!
