Jacquie Lee and Melanie Martinez (TV) signed to Atlantic Records (Haley Related ish)

It's been recently announced that Jacquie Lee and Melanie Martinez from The Voice were signed to Atlantic Records.

Particularly considering Atlantic has been rumored as a possible home for Haley.

Loved both of these little girls. But it's Haley related for two reasons.

With Melanie, she..also..started a kickstarter to make herself a music video. Came up with this..



Which may actually be my favorite single from a reality singing competition star, ever. And considering how much love I have for Haley, Adam, Michelle, Jessica..and Carrie and Kelly being Carrie and Kelly...that's saying something. (Considering Melanie certainly didn't reach that level of love on the show.) And the video is awesome.

Let's hope it works the same way for Haley.

Second..Jacquie Lee.. Jacquie is probably one of the closest contestants to Haley's style that's been on since Haley. She's a bluesy rocker..but her more subtle songs (not displayed on The Voice) she plays with her head voice a lot, and has even a jazzy tone to the songs. (I think she's a bit influenced by Lana Del Rey.)

With Jacquie being singed, and considering that the cast of the voice literally had a cast of a significant amount of female bluesy rockers and jazz singers..(and a lot of people get casted on that show based on what the record company is looking for..) to go along with ZZ Ward starting to get some promo and push..as well as Grace Potter doing the same....and Pretty Reckless becoming decently popular (as well as Florence remaining around, and Paramore making somewhat of a comeback)..I'm wondering if this style is predicted to be making somewhat of a comeback..and if so.. that's gotta be good for Haley..

Jacquie doesn't have the vocal maturity and control of Haley, but she's clearly very talented. And I always thought, of any of the girls compared to Janis..she was actually closest to Janis' voice before the drugs.

Very pretty...a little different from what she was singing on The Voice (I was hoping she'd come out with more of a ZZ Ward style, but she's heading more in the Christina Perri style.)

Her improvement is great in itself. She keeps getting better. I also love how she looks a little possessed when she's singing.

So Atlantic has been doing some great promo for the both of them.

Melanie has her song "Carousel" as the theme for American Horror Story. Melanie's EP is just filled with gems, this is no exception.

Jacquie's EP will be released Oct 21, she'll be performing on Good Morning America and MTV has been promoting her a lot recently. You can stream her MP3 in the link below. Personally, I don't think this will be the type of music she sticks too, but they are pretty good. The standout is her cover of "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun."

I didn't even watch most of Season 3 of The Voice, although I was aware of Melanie's cover of Toxic (Which the couple on xFactor sang in their audition.)

The cool thing about this cover is that it was her audition For The Voice. The way The Voice works is that competitors rank songs that they want to sing from 1 to 100, and then they get assigned a song. It could be number 1 or it could be number 99. So either Melanie got quite lucky, or she made up this cover (which has gone viral since) during the boot camp they do pre auditions. (To get people ready for the blind auditions.)

She certainly doesn't have the best voice in the world. But she's got a creative vision, is obviously a very good song writer..and her voice has a lot of appeal too it. To me, Melanie is what all those White Guys With Guitars wish they were. So I've certainly become a fan of hers after the show. I'm not sure if there is anyone else that applies too. Haha.

Jacquie, I think has an identity of what she wants to be, but this EP doesn't exactly showcase it as much. She's mentioned plenty of times that Adele, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Christina Aguilera..etc..are all musical influences of hers. And they are all R&B/blues singers. I think her EP is strong song wise, but not quite the music she wants to create. The article said she sounds like early Christina. Which could be how her musical direction evolves. Where Christina was more pop/dance music in her first album, and grew into her own with Stripped and Back to Basics.

I watched that season and really enjoyed it. (casasseee pope and nicholas david were great on the show) I thought and still think Melanie is the real deal. I loved toxic and sna and a few others and listened to them quite often.. i need to put them over on to this "new" phone I've had for 8 months. I liked her stylized hit the road jack too... no need to compare to haley .. different takes on the song. Cough syrup was great. I pretty much liked all her performances well enough to still listen to them (i'll go do that haha)

For me, singing is only one part about having a strong voice and two parts what you do with it. She's got just enough voice to do what she wants to do with it as her style really doesn't depend on ringing out notes at a wide range.

She's also something of a visual artist .. she had done some sketches and icons or something .. sort of a fabric that they had projected on the screen behind her when she sung one song. I'm sure many people can't get past the "oh she's one of those kids that dresses strange" but she has a real cohesive sense of style and use of color and proportion in how she dresses too.. always interesting and complete.

There is something in me that says a real artist should be adept in more than one type of art. Melanie colors her music and is partial to a sort of haunting sort of satire of normal things.

As far as mutilple arts are concerned Haley is a pretty darn good actress for example which leads to some great song interpretations as they are written.

That's interesting, but I think you are right. I think there's writing, there's singing, there's the ability to play instruments, the ability to dance, visually artistic, the ability to emote...

That's all creative processes that the best artists at least have two of them.
