Yeah thax John. That was a great interview and I think it answers many questions about social media. So all the fans that think she isn't on twitter or whatever, Haley just sent the message that she hasn't abandoned her supporters.Getting dropped from Interscope was IMO the best thing for her.Now she has more control over business and management decisions that she never had. Good advice and on the job training. She will do well,and she is finding what works for her .She really did speak from the heart.

What about social media...?
"I'm really trying to be better with it...." Likes instagram. She confirmed that she wasn't into it all at the beginning. A source of pressure.


"At this point for me I've got a lot of different sounds going on and I need to hone in on what I particularly want...I'd love to do a jazz album... This next [album] I just want it to be raw, gritty, and -- epic...incorporate more strings and horns, and just kind of make it full and organic."

Spoke of more global themes in her writing (environment and such).

Her comments about the upside and downside of being associated with American Idol are interesting.

Interesting interview that presents Haley in a little different light. Not like the celebrity interviews we have seen before.

It is interesting, John. But having a fellow musician who knows the business conducting the interview, it makes sense that he would approach it a bit differently. (There is also the fact that he was approaching it as a "professor" -- as his title in the beginning stated -- and having an idea what his students would want to know.)

I do wish that he'd asked her about the "collaborative songwriting process." I'm so intrigued about how that is done, particularly after coming across a YouTube of a master songwriting class that Lake Street Dive did at their post-secondary alma mater, earlier this fall.

Interesting to me about that interview, it was talked about quite a bit back when Haley was on AI, that THEY (American Idol) called her the day before auditions, and personally asked her to try out. I have noticed in every interview, she never says those exact words or even alludes to AI prompting her to try out. She says things like, "I got a call the day before encouraging me to try again", or some variation of that. I wonder if she's not allowed to say that AI called her and told her this was her season and to come back and try again.....If I remember, it was an insider in her inner circle who said it was AI who asked HER to return. It also makes me wonder if they had her AI "role" in mind already (we all know what that is, DARK HORSE ) and needed to get her there.

I think it's a common practice from singing competitions to ask back contestants who have tried out but didn't make it far enough to where they could try out again. DeAndre Brackensick and Holly were asked back as well. I believe, in that case, they get to skip those rounds.

(The Voice is a different animal because they recruit, too.)

I must say, I am very taken by this interview. It offers me a whole new level of understanding of who Haley seems to be as a professional and as a person, and I really like what she says, and how clear and conscious she is about it. I am particularly taken by her thoughts on not going the fashionable "singles only" route (at 33') but is emphasizing larger units of work. That is not nostalgia for the old times and LPs, it is about what the product is when you're an artist, whether it's feeding the machine or creating a larger work ("a full body of work that makes sense", she says). I am glad she thinks this way. But more generally, too, this interview totally reinstates, or rather reinforces, my belief that she knows exactly what she is doing and that supporting her means joining her in her patience. Excellent.
