I don't get the feeling that Randy is really a homework doing type of guy.

quite noticeable how deftly Haley introduces pertinent information into their conversation, being assertive rather than passive.

I thought Haley did a great job of guiding the interview in various spots. She has a good sense of what he'll bite on.

Yo Dude...Randy Jackson is about as ignorant as an interviewer as he is as a Judge. So Glad Haley was able to divert the attention away from the dribble he was trying to enhance his worthless knowledge about and she directed the topics that she wanted to talk about. It was clear that Randy hasn't followed Haley's Career and hadn't bothered to listen up to WTS. "I didn't know your mom could sing" "Oh wow, you voice a little boy ??". At least he got a few compliments in but he made it a choppy interview.

Listening to Fleming podcast then Jackson’s really, really highlighted the difference between a real interviewer and someone using the platform to further his semi-celebrity status. It seemed like he had very little memory of Haley (or pretended) or interest in her reason for being there. It WAS clear his only real interest was in in talking about himself - his memories of idol and those aspects of Haley’s career where he had a vague memory or connection. (Especially insulting was .. “what season was it?”)

Haley did a good job navigating the conversation to promote the reason she was there - while also handling Randy and his ego. I wonder if she was thinking the entire time (like I was)... what a tool.

I remember being in middle school and getting an award at the end of the year: most likely to be on "American Idol." A lot of signs pointed to that. I got a call from the producers after the first year I had tried out and not made it as far as I would have imagined. They called me back the day before the audition and said, “Hey, we would really like you to come back and try out again because we believe in you.” That, to me, was pure fate, and I figured since I am finding out about this the day before, I might as well go.
