Lauren Alaina gets "married"

There’s some heartbreaking news for fans of American Idol teen heartthrob Lauren Alaina.

She got “married” Saturday.

Behind the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

To a guy from North Providence.

It was a simple ceremony — no clergy, no vows, no marriage license, no wedding gown, lots of photographs.

But a delightfully taken-aback Alaina, 16, said yes after she came out to greet fans and sign autographs when an older man, Zack Tremblay, 17, wearing a red shirt and black tie, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him.

“I’ll marry you for tonight. Just for the night,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve never had this happen before.”

...Tremblay, the ersatz husband-for-a-day, said his friends had been daring him throughout the drive to make the proposal. He said he has been smitten with her “ever since I laid eyes on her. She’s so beautiful. I had to do it.”

He couldn’t believe his good fortune.

“I think I just died,” Tremblay said to his friends after Alaina gave him a high-five and a hug, then posed for pictures with her temporary husband.

“That was so cute,” she said.

Then her mom showed up.

“Mom!” Alaina announced. “You missed it!”

Kristy Alaina took it all in stride, even posing for a photo with her sudden son-in law.

“She loves people,” she said, admiring her daughter’s patience with the fans. “This has been her dream. I’m very happy for her.”

...As for Tremblay, who said he’s never proposed to anyone before, he still has dreams of more than a one-day deal.

“If today goes well,” he said with a smile after he was back among the waiting fans and the Alainas had gone back to their trailer, “why not for the rest of my life?”
