Haley had just performed her first single, "Free," across the street for some lucky students at the Grammy Museum, and she was in good spirits as the promotional spree for her album officially got underway.

Watch Haley talk about her hands-on approach to her album, how being an "Idol" underdog helped prepare her for her career, how she assembled her new backing band, and what to expect from her big Interscope debut.

She said my favorite word of late, "depth."

"I want to be able to write good music that has depth to it. It's important to me."

Dad will be playing on 1-4 of the songs. Hope to get mom and sister involved at some point. Hoping to go out on tour with "somebody incredible." (= larger venues? -- I hope not too big.) Apparently did not write on the single.

It feels great to already be able to have the respect as an artist, from Day 1. And, I truly feel it's because I went in knowing what I wanted, and letting them know, hey, I want to be a true artist. I want to be creative. That's who I've been my whole life, why change anything now. And them allowing me to flourish in that aspect is unbelievable. I have a great team behind me.

You might want to try to get on her radar a little. Once things get rolling she will be impossible to reach.

In the interview Haley mentions Mike Elizondo. I think this tweet was the only mention of him that appeared here. Also mentions Chriss Destefano. Seems to have a special regard for Rob Kleiner and maybe Busbee. No mention of Mozella or Aimee Proal, or them urban dudes.

Regarding the single she almost sang on AI...almost happened but a blessing in disguise that it didn't....it obviously wasn't as true to my heart as it could have been -- at all. So I guess that answers a question we batted around a while back...(she walked away from it).

Listening to Haley, I find it really hard to get where some of her "haters" are coming from. I can accept that not everybody will love her style of music, but with Haley the person, what's not to like?

Seems to have a special regard for Rob Kleiner

I thought that too. She says the album has a cohesive sound. I'm thinking he is the one who most defined it. Just two years ago he was in Chicago thinking about possibly moving to LA:

AM: Are you college degreed?

RK: I have a degree in philosophy and I minored in music. I studied a lot of music in college but I didn't get my degree in it. There was only so much training in theory and classical training that I really wanted to take. That stuff is awesome but for me I like doing my own thing better.

AM: So what's your favorite kind of music?

RK: That's a tough question. I love film music. Some of my favorite film composers are Ennio Morricone and I really like Henry Mancini. I also love pop music. Serge Gainsbourg is one of my favorite artists. Of the people today I really love Beck. I like people that do innovative stuff with pop. I guess my roots are in avant-guarde stuff. I tend to like a little bit of the weird sounds.
