Haley- surprised by Undone's popularity!
So I finally met Haley on Saturday at the walmart in wheeling. I had about 50 people ahead of me when she walked in. I must say that I have not seen so many guys have that "look" in their faces since I went to the theater 15 years ago and Kate Winslet posed for Leo Dicaprio in "Titanic". Haley had a very sexy, tight fitting dress on and she looked stunning!

So after waiting for what seemed like an eternity my turn came up and I approached her. I gave her my 2 copies of listen up and she thanked me for buying them. I asked her if she would be singing the national anthem for our White Sox any time soon. Unfortunately, she replied that "things haven't worked out too well on that end so far:huh:" Then I told her about Spiderweb, which is my personal favorite, had come in second in a poll taken at one of her fan websites. This seemed to be intriguing to her and she quickly asked

"which one is first? I answered "Undone" and she just said "Gosh" and shook her head!!!!!!!!!! ( though her incredible smile remained on all this time). What should we make of this??? Should we take it as just something that surprised her or even dissappoint her? I honestly do not know.

She said she didn't usually write/do ballads and was surprised at how many people loved it when she played it for her friends and family. Ballads aren't her territory so wasn't as confident with it as other genres. That's why she's surprised it's well accepted.

Can't remember where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read

Found it
Quote:
Quote:In the middle of an otherwise loud album is the gently soaring ballad, "Undone", which Haley wrote with Neo-Motown singer, MoZella and Rob Kleiner, a song which took her into new territory. "I'm not used to ballads", she says, honestly. "It's a little more poppy than I'm used to, the changes and everything. It's different for me. What I found from showing people is that they're captivated by it. I'm happy that people can really, truly relate to it. I put myself in a really heartbroken place, and I think that's something that everybody has felt at some point."
BeatweekMagazine (pg 18)

In case people missed it. Interesting "Undone" was something Haley wasn't completely comfortable with doing/writing because It wasn't familiar to her, so she was surprised at people's response to it.....
Haley is music Big Grin

I think she shook her head in disbelief, It's like she just discovered that she was good at something else, and didn't even know it LOL Big Grin ...Like an Olympic Swimmer discovering he was also a world class chef while at a barbeque Smile

Well I remember her statements about the song from the interview at Clevver News such as "I was pulled into it" and "The more I´ll sing it I´ll get more confortable with it"... that actually caught my attention. So my guess it´s that she wasn´t expecting that song to hit so hard with her fans and maybe the producers or the label convinced her to include it in the album to balance it all, but it doesn´t seem to be a favourite of hers...

I agree it's not a favorite of hers. It's fairly straightforward and Haley likes songs that are dynamic. She likely finds Undone to be boring and it probably bumped a song off the album she likes better.

She doesn't appreciate it because it didn't demand a lot from her. Her fans like it because its simple composition highlights her voice, which conveys an aching vulnerability suited to the lyrics.

Haley might also feel it's something of a downer compared to the other songs on the album. I have the feeling she relates better to they lyrics of Wasted Tears. "Que sera, sera."

I'm with Haley. For me, Undone is an unoriginal, melodramatic, formula pop ballad that's my least favorite song on the album. It's just not Haley, and I would guess she cringes at the idea of being labeled as a diva ballad singer when it's as far from who she really is as could be. No offense to those who love it, mind you.

Placing Undone on the album might be a calculated move but I don't think the song itself is formulaic.

I like it because it is all Haley and a piano; more Haley = good. She puts the Haley on everything she sings. I don't think she dislikes any of her songs or they would not be on the album. To me it proves she can sing a great ballad, which she didn't really do on TV.

Undone is definitely not one of my favorites. However, I really want Haley to break out of the idol bubble ASAP, and if Undone is a song that can help make it happen so be it. I hope Interscope and the people in her staff are aware of this song's popularity (Haley apparently was not)and that in their eagerness to push 'Oh My' and HTGR, NTYH etc they won't overlook this opportunity.

I love Undone for it's simplicity & for the fact that it allows Haley to go to a place she normally wouldn't go (both lyrically and emotionally). I just think she overcooked the ending a bit.

I'm sure the live version will be beyond amazing, though!
