Skip down to the bottom half of the article depending on your patience .. there are lots of links there to the actual videos RE: Random Stuff - john - 04-24-2015 When I saw these pictures, then read the details it took me a moment to wrap my head around it. This is Christina ![]() ![]() Christina, her sister and her mother, Florence. ![]() The photos are early color photographs taken with autochrome film. They were taken in 1913. RE: Random Stuff - Tom22 - 04-25-2015 John, you should have shown Tusk the sepia version of that top picture first to see if he could know it was a red dress anyway ! ![]() There is something really interesting about the photo's. I.. think I would perceive the same people as living in a far more different world with far more distant personalities if shown the same subjects in old time black and white. What's interesting is that I wouldn't say that about present black and white photo's .. which I don't think change my perceptions too much of the people. Maybe it's sort of a additive things, black and white plus subtley different subject matter might make me "pidgeon hole" the people to a time I have a bias torwards thinking of as more different than it is. It's funny though as I've grown older and seen more hair styles come and go, and know what it's like to be a 20 and 30 and 40 and now starting on 50 year old that things like the gold miner pictures and historical pictures at ground breakings etc don't have quite the divide that they used to. ... still this color takes it another step. ...other random thoughts Lavender( edit sorry not lavender bu Wisteria.. although the same might apply to lavender) but was definitely something akin to "stylish" or "hip" back then, as was the little anchor label label that probably conveyed rakish adventure and worldliness etc, not some cliche symbol relegated to childs clothes and even there only a nostalgic nod to the past fashion. Anyway, thanks for sharing them... I also find them thought-stimulating as I've shown whether on the mark or not lol RE: Random Stuff - john - 04-25-2015 Thanks for the comments Tom. When I think about photos from this time I think about something more like this ![]() The typical photo from this era: B&W, posed a certain way, and with certain hair styles and clothes. Like old family photos where I may have met some of the subjects much later in their lives. The photos typical depict things that feel old and distant. While the top photo looks old in a weathered sense, the girl, her hair and the clothes could be very recent. The other two photos have more give aways that they are old, but they seem to depict something much more familiar and close than the typical 100 year old picture. When I saw the date I did a mental double take and found myself fascinated by the mix of feelings brought on. To me they are very evocative. I have to remind myself how differenct their everyday lives were. Then the reality strikes that a person born the year that Florence died would be 81 this year. Here are a couple more. ![]() ![]() Quote:Mervyn O'Gorman was 42 when he took these pictures of his daughter, Christina O'Gorman at Lulworth Cove, in the English county of Dorset. He photographed Christina wearing a red swimming costume and red cloak, a colour particularly suited to the early color Autochrome process. http://mashable.com/2015/04/23/autochrome-photos-ogorman/ RE: Random Stuff - john - 04-27-2015 Intense commutes series Sao Paulo Subway ![]() Bangladesh ![]() http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-worlds-most-incredible-commutes-2014-6# RE: Random Stuff - john - 04-29-2015 polyphonic overtone singing - Anna-Maria Hefele RE: Random Stuff - john - 05-05-2015 5-year-old with nunchuks RE: Random Stuff - john - 05-10-2015 Quote:WTF Facts @WTFFacts 3h3 hours ago RE: Random Stuff - john - 05-16-2015 ![]() |
