It's crazy to me when those types of voices come out of a 17 year old.
There were some parts of it I really liked myself and I see a fire in the girl that I personally value.
I also echo the John and Swan and Tusk and other's appreciation of Jax ... she showed some real connection, a strong voice and vocal control well behind the "indie" tone and like the judges observed her "indie" sound wasn't using effective and gratuitous changing of vowel sounds in words.
As for the Audience, Idol's ship has largely sailed but there I think there is a core segment of people who like live musical television and a segment that likes sort of "game shows" who can keep the show going.. whether or not they can pay Ryan Seacrest enought to keep him interested might be an issue.. he is a big producer of many shows these days...he might value the limelight of being on the show but he might also, at some point think it could be tarnishing his image.
I've noted that he's taking a different take as a host and acting in a way more appropiate to the show being a Niche audience sticking with the roots as a talent show and with a bit less hubris and self importance about the show...very subtle but he's got a knack for these things and the tone needs to be welcoming to drawing people back in a way that is slightly less cheesy 'entitlement" to an audience... you never want a "who do they think they are" reaction.

I've got a soft spot for Carson Daly, in that he was the host of my favorite show while growig up (TRL), and I like the strange mix of warmth and dry humor he brings.
But there's a professionalism about Seacrest that is hard to match. The show lucked out with him.

She should do a TVLine episode with them. Slezak and Melinda are too funny on that.
But yea..you know what would be great, to get a Melinda/Haley duet on PMJ. (Or just have them do an actual jazz standard. That could work too.)
